little known fact: you can use mountain dew to marinate meat. the carbonation tenderizes it. really you can use any soda, but md is teh crack cocaine! i actually just fixed my steak that way about a week ago,

Slow cook a few pounds of boneless pork country ribs in a mixture of 12 ounces Coca-Cola and 1 packet Lipton's Onion Soup mix. Cook in a crock pot (or in a covered casserole in the oven at say 325) for 4 hours or so. Fucking yum.

Then there's the legendary beer can chicken, always a good call too

Take a 12 oz can of beer
Drink a few sips
Add garlic cloves and onion to the beer can
Jam beer can up in bird's cavity
Put it on the grill can side down so it stands up
Cook a long time (about 1 hour) over medium-low heat

Also fucking yum.

I tend not to marinade Barbeque...I use a dry rub and then a brush sauce during cooking...

Meat Rub

1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ground cumin
1/4 cup chili powder
1/4 cup freshly cracked black pepper
1 tbsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 cup paprika
For Beef ( 1 tbsp dried oregano, crushed to powder)
For Chicken ( 1 tbsp dried rosemary, crushed to powder)
For Pork (1 tbsp sage, 1 tbsp rosemary, crushed to powder)

I tend to play with the final ingredient based on my mood...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For my traditional tomato based Barbeque brush/dip sauce...

Barbeque Sauce

1/2 White Onion Chopped
2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
2 tbsp prepared mustard
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp Tabasco

Wilt the onion in about a tablespoon of oil until it just begins to brown. Add remaining ingredients bring to a simmer. Keeps well refrigerated.
