Bubba Ho-Tep

Post by Keverian FireCry »

Just rented this last night and loved it. It's a low budget comedy/horror with Bruce Campbell as an elderly Elvis impersonator who believes he is the real Elvis. He meets JFK, played by Ossie Davis, who believes his skin was dyed black to hide his identity from the conspiracy which has wanted him dead since the 1960s.

Elvis and JFK come to believe that something, other than "old-age" is killing the residents of the retirement home.

The two old-timers find out after some research that there is a ancient egyptian mummy feeding off the souls of the old people within the retirement home. The mummy comes every night and sucks the souls from his victms through their buttholes. The two old men decide they must do whatever they can to stop the mummy.

The movie is hilarious and thrilling. Very well acted by Bruce and Ossie. You will really love these two characters. It is very creative and fun. I highly recommend renting it.

PS: It is a slow-paced movie compared to most horror films, which I liked about it, but some may not.

Yeah Bubba Ho-Tep is a cool movie, downloaded it a while back (since the chance of a DK cinema release is around 0), and just ordered it on DVD last night.
Its great fun, just dont expect a Bruce Campbell horror/comedy like Army of Darkness or Evil dead.

Won loads of awards so far, and got http://www.dvdreview.com's Gold stamp.

The Pulp Fiction / Twilight Zone method of taking the soul through a small puncture at the back of the neck is far less unseemly. I mean, peoples' brains aren't in their asses anyway!

Hmm, who say the soul (if one exist) are located in the brain?
Who knows, it might as well be in our ass.

I had been waiting for this to be released in any fashion since it wrapped in 2002. They had terrible difficulty finding a distributor so settled for the film festive stint until such an opportunity became available.

FINALLY, they started screening it in indy film houses in the states. I was able to get a chance to see it last year at a local indy house in Portland.

I am glad that it finally getting the attention it deserves! :D

Hmmm Matrix used plugs in the backs of necks...A round patch of skin on the back of the neck was used to administer some sort of medicine to control mutants in X-Men...it's all about necks these days!

Sucking souls out of 'larger' orifices has been proven to delay carple tunel syndrome.

I feel a sense of shame. I couldn't watch all of this. Was depressing me, not to mention kinda slow. I got about just over halfway through before I turned it off. I'll finish watching it, I'm still in shock that I turned a Bruce Campbell film off. But yea... old people really depress me.

This DVD was one of my christmas presents, fantasic movie. Video store down the street has 1 copy, it didn't even get put on the new release shelf.

I'd have liked to have seen it on screen, never made it to Tampa though.
