NE vs. Dwarf starting areas

Post by eOmniz »

My roomate and I are finally going to pick this up now that the semester is over and we have some time for addiction. Has anyone played the first 20ish levels as both Dwarf and Night Elf and can say which one they prefer? We plan on doing all leveling together and have higher level friends who can port (I know they're on different continents). Is doing the NE quests as a dwarf possibile or vice versa? I know there are class quests but I don't know how restrictive the race quests are ...

Are we going to have to wait till Hillsbrad to group together for real or what!?

I played a Dwarf Hunter up to 17, and my other half played up to 17 also as a NE.

I enjoyed my time a dwarf hunter, I found the area easy to navigate, but still fun to explore. Money might not be an issue to you, but as a dwarf hunter I managed to make 1 gold or so. G/f made about 3 gold. Around her starting area theres a group of harpies 8-14 which dropped very good loot to sell thus makin her richer than me quite swiftly (bitch).

From bouncing between character I found I liked the dwarf hunting area's better. Not to mention that transport to major area's is easier. Youve got the deeprun tram for one, which takes you to stormwind. Also the only autionhouse (alliance wise) is Ironforge. So while I could get my player made stuff easily, she had a big journey to get there (again you said you had porter friends, so maybe not that big a deal).

Anyway, to sum up, out of the two that I played I prefered the dwarf lands. Still went to Darnassus to do the quests if I needed to, which you can as either NE or Dwarf. Im pretty sure all quests (save horde and alliance) are interchangable. Generally more craic going on around IF/Stormwind also.

Hope this helps

I'm not sure just exactly how helpful what I am going to tell you will be to you... but I've found the human/dwarf starting areas to be pretty darn good for experience. I haven't played a night elf, so I can't compare, but I've played several humans (and with the deeprun tram... Well, let's just say it's as if you were in the same city), and I've done both the human and dwarven quests. Trust me, the experience simply skyrocketed.

So as a human could you do the dwarf quests? I see that dwarf area is better, but if my NE friend comes over there will he be able to do any of the quests?

As far as I've found, yes. But its probably wiser for him to do the ones in Darnassus for a bit. The dwarf quests, say for hunters will yeild guns, they dont yeild bows. His will give bows instead of guns. At least early on.

Just have the elf train in guns in IF :)

I've played both, albeit the NE area not as much. I suggest both of you doing the first few levels by yoursellves (they go wicked fast anyway) so you get the feel of each area and which you like better.

Personally - I love the dwarf and human newbie areas, and as a Dwarf I did tons of Human, Gnome, and Dwarf quests along with a couple NE ones when I traveled.

I ran my NE hunter to Ironforge at level 6, loved that snowy area in beta and thedrassil seemed so frigging dark, you can do all the quests, but I found out I couldn't do my lvl 10 pet quest in dwarf area, you need to go to your home area, not sure if that's the case with all classes and their class defining level 10 quest, but it very well may be.
I've been travelling back and forth between 2 continents since then trying to do all the quests before they grey out, there's much to do in all 3 newbie and teen areas and i didn't see a quest yet that I wasn't able to start at an appropraite level.

By the way Auction House problem is easily solved by binding in IH, just takes a little money to fly where you want to hunt after you are done with AH, also I find that you can more often than not find better deals out in the hunting grounds than in AH, plus you get an instant sale/purchase from players as opposed to waiting for your auction to sell or to win the bid. AH is overrated IMO.

oh and another note about AH, I seriously hope they decide to add banks and AH at least in Stormwind and Darnassus, or Thunder Bluff and Undercity for horde, the lag created by all the people in Ironforge or Ogrimar (sp) is crippling, only lag complaint I have is those two cities.

Speaking of auction houses. I noticed there is an auction house in the neutral city of Gadgetzan. I assume that Horde and Alliance auctions are all grouped together there, and can be bid on anyone regardless of faction. If that is the case, do you think the Gadgetzan AH will become popular as more players reach higher levels?

I'd go Dwarf if I were you. You can always go NE for an alt.

I agree with Sylvos. Alliance is for pussies.

Remember the first rule of Alliance PvP: Never ever fight unless there is a level ?? paladin nearby to cry to when you get stomped.

Mwaaahahahaha to protect and to serve all the way baby  Go go Paladin!!!!!!

You can do all the quests in all the Alliance zones together with your friend.
My friends and I hop around all 3 zones to do all the quests and also to keep leveling up all the factions. So just get all the flight paths and play together.
