Wondering what gaming platform is best from these perspectives:
Variety of Games
Game Play (controls etc)
Cost of Games
Internet compatibility
Quality of games (design, depth etc)
Thanks tons getting one for the family for Christmas.

Variety of Games - Playstation
Gameplay - Pretty even, however xbox has the edge
Cost of Games - Nearly the same on all consoles
Internet Compatibility - Xbox live makes it easy
Quality of Games. This is where theres a lot of arguement. Nintendo has by far the best first-party games. However since its first-party, there arnt many of them. Xbox and PS2 are pretty even in third-party games, but your chances of finding a quality game on xbox is better than ps2.
Ide recomend the gamecube if the family plays games semi-often. The mario party series is great when you have 3-4 people. Very easy on new people too. If they play a lot get the xbox. If only one or two people play very often go for xbox or ps2.

X-Box hands down if you didn't mention your family. If your kids aren't teenagers yet, the gamecube has more games geared toward young kids. The game controller for the X-Box is the largest of the three systems and can be cumbersome for small hands. I'd still go Playstation over Gamecube though if age is a concern as it's a better all around system with a DVD player that can be used to play movies etc where the gamecube doesn't have this option and has less games available than Playstation.Atokal wrote:Wondering what gaming platform is best from these perspectives:

Yes they are, I switched back to PS2 to play GTA: San Andreas and it was very noticeable.Sylvus wrote:Are the new (standard) xbox controllers that much bigger than PS2's? I don't notice that big a difference, though I have pretty big hands.
There are small third party controllers available for the X-Box at places like Best Buy though.
Sylvus has man hands! Me too!
I bought an Xbox controller with a built in fan. It actually works. I put the fan on during those intense racing games like Project Gothem when you've got intense action for a long time without a break.
In that order I'd say:Variety of Games
Game Play (controls etc)
Cost of Games
Internet compatibility
Quality of games (design, depth etc)
-PS2, simply a ton of titles
-Xbox, I prefer their controller, both the old and the newer version to the PS2's. Better left thumbstick placement, better ergo, and analog triggers.
-Probably PS2 as they have the largest greatest hits selection. I imagine the Xbox isn't that far behind though as they have a nice selection of under $20 games as well.
-Xbox
-Overall, probably PS2, but Xbox has a vast selection of quality games as well.
For a family, I'd probably get a PS2 first unless there's a specific Xbox title someone in the fam really wants. Truthfully, the GC is a distant third in every way shape or form, even from a family prespective. Just a dearth of titles to choose from and it has no versatility(internet, DVD, etc.).
