Alexander

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I didn't see this posted recently. Has anyone seen this 3 hour movie? I haven't yet but I had planned on it. I heard that it has a Narrator at the beginning and end. That is kind of a turn off for me. It's like saying we think you are too stupid to understand this so we will tell you what is happening. Or they were too inept in the making of the movie that they had to explain what they were trying to do before any questions, WTF?

Anyhow, anyone see the movie yet?

I personally have not seen it, but have heard from many friends that it's horrible. Movies.com says 1.5/5 stars.

I'm curious, but not curious enough to go see it in the theater. I'll wait and buy the DVD.

The previews look bad. Colin Farrell is totally miscast. I can't picture him as Alexander at all. I have no idea why Oliver Stone picked him unless he was forced to.

Random typical Yahoo review:
where to start, I watched this movie with a very diverse crowd and we all could not help but to laugh at the diolog, acting and overall the horrible movie we were watching. The only part of the movie that was watchable was when there was a battle going on, but you could save your money and just watch the battles from Lord of the Rings since they were somewhat similar and better. Also, the recreation of Mesopotamia was pretty good. Besides that, the acting was sooo bad that during certain scenes that were supposed to be dramatic, they became funny because they were so over acted and ridiculous. You know its a bad movie when you and half the theater laughs when someone is dying in the movie.

It isn't a bad-bad movie in my book, but Oliver stone fails in several important aspects of it in my book. First of all, the narrator, he is necessary in the movie because it jumps a lot, which i guess is necessary since the movie would otherwise be 10 hours long. But he is also one of the worst things in the movie, since it narrates things it should show us.

We get to see some of the battles and they are wicked, very well filmed and all that, but it just isn't enough. The movie is supposed to be about Alexander and his life, but at the end you just sit there thinking "huh?" because it tells us nothing about him really. Except that he was bisexual which we already knew.

I am a big history buff and i have read lots and lots about ancient Greece and Alexander, but to me, this film was a fairly big disappointment. My friends who aren't history buffs thought it was good though.

It was alright, nothing Id pay for to see, almost not worth the 3 hours, I watched til like 20 minutes til the end when I just went to bed, it wasn't worth seeing the end... I had parts that I enjoyed though, some of it was redeeming. But overall, not really.

The story of Alexander is enormous, that is why the movie is so long. He cut out A LOT, try reading up on the history a bit and you will know just how much, he probably used like 1/10 of the story line in the movie, and jumped over a lot of things using the narrator.

I wanted 3 hours of my life back. If you don't mind being reminded every other second that Alexander loves the cack, then it is at best, a semi boring flick ranking just below mediocre. Otherwise, it totally sucked serious ass.

Rottentomatoes.com gave it a 15% rating. A movie has to really suck badly to get such a low mark.

Now there is another version coming out in the near future I believe. Do you think that one will fare better?
