with 24 classes, a lot of them being good/evil copys, i cant find any true differences between some of the good and evil counterparts...
i know that monks are a more defensive version of the bruiser
and that defilers concentrate more on debuffs and mystics buffs
pals and SKS are obvious
but what is the real difference between an inquisitor and a templar
or even a swashbuckler/brigand/assassin...3 dfferent rogue classes, still dont see how that works

Assasin is the opposite of a Ranger.
Swashbuckler and Brigand (I'm a Swashbuckler)
The difference between these 2 classes is in the attitude of the character. As a Swashbuckler you are a charming person, yet you still seem to get your way. As a Brigand, you are more of a Bully in terms of getting what you want (Think of the highwaymen in Antonica that suddenly appear once you go into a valley).

Taken from Scout Sanctuary
Really haven't noticed much difference between the two other than a few Combat Arts.Swashbucklers: The swashbuckler is the "good" rogue and resides in Qeynos. Swashbucklers use positional attacks like the backstab but also get utility arts like a mez and taunt abilities.
Brigands: Brigands are the evil rogue class specializing in positional based atacks. They have moves like ruse which is a temporary feign death and then attack maneuver. They also get some taunt based abilities for the rare cases they need to draw aggro.

That brought a tear to my eye Sparty.
BTW.....the Swashbuckler in EQ 2 is going to be exactly like the early days of the EQ 1 rogue. No one looks for them in groups because they don't have the optimized DPS and no one has a clue what their function is.
By the time end game content gets done, people will be rerolling to get more of them into guilds. I am not sure there is a class that brings more to a group or raid than a Swash will. They do decent damage over time instead of the one big hit an hour that the assassin does.....and no one will be more important for agro management. Huge utility class with high damage.
