Sorry Chid, I hope he fails miserably, or at least brings up up so that it's a 'last resort' item that requires legal involvement to go through.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

2 things about Abortion that will keep the Republicans from doing anything about it. well 3 things.
1. they never had any intention of doing anything about it, they use it to get votes.
2. moderate Republicans and all Democrats in the Senate and House would not pass any legislation banning it.
3. if Republicans pass abortion, they no longer have an issue to vote on for a large amount of their base, who might be forced to vote in their economic interest (and likely vote Democrat).

The only way to stop abortions is to educate all the little Christian sluts about sex (not abstinence) before they start opening their legs to every boy that says he loves them.
Teaching personal responsibility would also be nice, but given that parents can't even talk about one of the most basic human functions, expecting them to cover more complex sociological issues is fucking CRAZY.

It won't stop abortions. They'll either do it illegally or cross the border to get one. (An abortion clinic in one of the border towns might be a good venture atm).Akaran_D wrote:Sorry Chid, I hope he fails miserably, or at least brings up up so that it's a 'last resort' item that requires legal involvement to go through.

Voro pretty much spelled it out.Voronwë wrote:2 things about Abortion that will keep the Republicans from doing anything about it. well 3 things.

There's no chance Roe vs Wade will be reversed. We need the extreme fundies for republicans to be elected but the more moderate republicans have enough sense not to overturn something as important as the right to choose. As sylvos was saying in another thread, the majority of republicans don't agree with 100 percent of the platform. (same for democrats of course) It was merely a strategy to gain votes and an obvious one at that.
As with anything, preventing the situation from developing in the first place is where the efforts need to be made. My radical "sterilize everyone until the age of 18" project will never fly so the next best thing is to revamp our education system to teach our kids what's really important to give them a fighting chance in society after high school...real world sex education, basic home/family economics, understanding credit/debit responsibilities, much improved nutrition/health education, etc.

Bush never appears the be political, remember, he listens to "god" every morning and leads the country according to the voices in his head. I'd be surprised if he listens to his country's outcry on this matter.

Morally disgusting in that they'll will say one thing to get elected but refuse to do anything about it once in office.
Aka: Lieing, and about what I expected, but they're not doing anything to make it easier for abortions to happen..

Those extreme fundies will expect results or you won't get those votes again.Winnow wrote:There's no chance Roe vs Wade will be reversed. Also, it seems to me it may be the reverse in that the extreme fundies need the moderates for votes. Case in point: the party platform vs the convention speakers.

Bush got his. Think he cares if another republican gets elected?
He'll do the stump thing just like any ex-prez will but he probably couldn't give 2 shits over who comes next, be they republican, democrat, or austrian.
Besides, who else would the extreme right vote for?
The best bet for a republican victory in 4 years is a ticket including Hillary Clinton.
