Can anyone here validate this story?

The major pharmaceutical companies in the US provided almost 90% of the nations flu vaccine at one time. They did this despite a very low profit margin for the product. Basically, they were doing us a favor. In the late 80's a man from North Carolina who had received the vaccine got the flu.

The strain he caught was one of the strains in that years vaccine
made by a US company. What did he do? He sued and he won. He was awarded
almost $5 million! After that case was appealed and lost, most US pharmaceutical companies stopped making the vaccine.

The liability out weighed the profit margin. Since UK and Canadian laws
prohibit such frivolous law suits UK and Canadian companies began selling the vaccine in the US.

By the way...the lawyer that represented the man in the flu shot law suit was a young ambulance chaser by the name of John Edwards.
Just one of the questionable emails you get day to day and wonder about validity.

It's one of those "grain of truth" scams. Flu vaccines are not very profitable, the rest is all bullshit.

I'm going to put this as gently as possible...

Do Bush/Cheney supporters REALLY want to go digging into the past personal and professional lives of people running for office? Because I can think of a few liberals here who are just salivating to open THAT can of worms.

I'm just wondering if there's a way to verify the story. I'm not trying to dive into some long discussion about flu vaccines.

flu vaccines are profitible, they just arent as profitible as things like Viagra.

meaning 200% profit margins suck compared to 2,000,000% profit margins.

edit: not trying to suggest that my % are accurate numbers, using a bit of hyperbole to express my view of the situation.

Did you know Michael Moore's next "film" is going to be about the pharmaceutical industry. I'm sure we can expect to see top quality investigate documentary filmmaking as in his previous endeavors.

Right, what I said :p

They offer no more proof than I did (it's really hard to prove the non-existance of something, just like WMD!)

Far easier to engage your brain.

Neither does the page you sited, which is my point in the reply...

See, normally when someone with a vested interest comes up with a story like this (grain of truth, but otherwise wholy incredible) that has some how managed to evade the press, I discount it out of hand. Ya'll however, invade Iraq ;)

Go read your first statement again Zaelath. That alone is evidence enough for satisfactory acceptance?

You ask much.
