PS and PS2 memory cards

Post by Dregor Thule »

I recently picked up FF9 second hand (had it originally, it died in a house fire.. don't ask). I popped it into my PS2 and was happily playing along, but came to the first save point and it wouldn't recognize the memory card I had in. Granted I have a cheaper card, not an official one, but it has worked perfectly up till now. I think this is the first original PS game I've tried saving on it with. Just wondering if this is a common thing? Anyone else experienced this?

you cant save PSone gaves on a PS2 mem card and vice versa. you can use them to transfer data though.

edit: transfer data among mem cards. in other words, in the console menu, you can copy a psone file on your ps2 card, but when you play the game, it wont recognize it on the ps2 card, if that makes sense.

Wow same exact thing happened to my friend like yesterday. Only he completed FF8's first disc without saving only to realize that the PS2 memory card didn't work. I gave him a PSone memory card and everything is okay now. I wish it that information was a little more well known.

I had the same problem when I tried playing FF4 (SNES FF2) which is a PS1 release on my PS2.

Putting a PS1 memory card in the reader slot did the trick.

Yeah - as stated above PS1 games can only be saved to a PS1 card, and PS2 games can only be saved to PS2 cards.

Well thanks for the confirmation guys. Guess I'll have to go out and get a PS1 memory card.
