Which console to buy?

Post by Tenuvil »

I'll make this short. I have cash lying about to buy a new video game console to plug into our new home theater and big ass tv.

I was leaning toward the new PStwo, but then I saw Dead or Alive Ultimate is being released for Xbox, and since the original DOA is one of the greatest games of all time that is swaying me toward Xbox. Plus I have heard great things about Halo 2, etc.

Suggestions?

I own a PS2 and play it a whole bunch. Usually while raiding, I'm playing some EA sports game. But I'd recommend going with an X-Box. For the very casual gamer, there's not too much of a difference. But with a big home theater system, X-Box is definatley the way to go since the hardware can do such and such fancy ass stuff. As far as I know, the PS2 only has regular RCA outs and you can use optical cable for sound, but for X-Box I think you can do much more. Also you can haxxor your X-Box and do some quite nifty things with it. My roomate has X-Box live to go with his X-Box and it's really fun to use. I'm very much anticipating when he buys Halo 2 so I can snipe bitches on that.

PS2 overall, XBOX for secondary.
Cube if you want to play both games that are any good on it.. Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

Xbox by far. Xbox has better load times... actually, that's not making the point strongly enough. The load times on the PS2 during the game are enough for you to get in some extra tempo on the trainer while you fucking wait.

The Xbox has better graphics. The Xbox has Knights of the Old Republic, and my personal favorite: Dead or Alive: X-treme Beach Volleyball. 8)

Add in the ability to hack the X-box and actually make it a very useful device, and I say X-box hands down.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Going to Sam's and getting an Xbox bundle. Thanks everyone for their input.

In case any of you haven't heard about the upcoming Dead or Alive Ultimate, here's a link: http://www.tecmogames.com/games/doau.asp

Wait!

OK...XBox!

PS2 has Grand Theft Auto-San Andreas. XBox has everything else good that PS2 has the past 6 months and looking forward.

And DOA is great. DOA: Beach Volleyball. wooo! Supreme Eye candy. The new DOA: Ultimate (which is a totally redone DOA 1 and 2 for the XBox) will be great) Team Ninja rocks. It goes without saying that Halo 2 will be a huge release...I said it anyway.

You mentioned a new big TV and Home Theater which favors XBox as well with the 480P and other HD games. Get the High Definition pack for sure to take advantage of that and go into the Dash and be sure th HD resolutions your TV is capable of are activated.

it's not an HDTV. It's a really really nice 37" JVC TV but not HD. Couldn't justify the significant increase in cost (comparable sized HD monitor would have been more than twice the cost) considering we don't watch TV all that much.

XBox is still better, the HD advantage is icing on the cake.

Lets all be honest. Both are great systems depending on what you want. Want to customize your system? emuators/media players etc.. etc.. also high res games if you got a HDTV..Xbox all the way. FPS gamers probably xbox as well for Halo/Halo2. Other than GTurisimo Xbox imo has better racing games as well (or, same racing games with spiffier graphics).

Rpgs/platformer games I'd go with PS2 all the way.

Also, imo, Xbox has the edge in online gaming as well with XBOX live. Not only can you play online but if a game supports Xbox live you can also recieve updates to your games (just downloaded a ton for mechassault, Project Gothem 2, updated ESPN NFL2k5 roster etc.. etc..). PS2 cant even begin to compete with Xbox for online content.

Now...when is my xbox mod chip getting here ^^.

Yeah, it really comes down to what games you play, and what you want out of it.

It's been discussed, and you can mod a PS2 as well, and play from burned copies, or even no copies, etc.

I have an archaic unmodded ps2, and I'm quite happy with it. There are things I miss out on not having an xbox, but that would be true if reversed.

Get one, have a friend get the other. then you're set.

I do like the feel of the PS2 controller better but have grown to like the pressure triggers of the XBox controller.

I understand the Xbox 2 controller will have two buttons directly above the triggers which will be the best of both worlds.

Unfortunately, I still have a PS2 hooked up to my system because of games like GTA: San Andreas which I'll be checking out after work tonight thanks to kyoukan teaching us all how to steal with Bittorrent.

BTW, a glut of RPG games have come on the scene for the XBox in the past few months so even the RPG advantage of PS2 is gone save for FFX which the new Lord of the Rings III based it's gameplay on so you can get that for the XBox.

Modding a PS2 is as simple as buying a swap magic disk and copying a game to a DVD+R.(or DVD-R if you have an older one) and adding a flip top cover to your PS2. ($39.75 total cost)

Modding isn't all about playing the games though. Ease of use and additional functionality is important to me and Xbox makes life so much easier with the ability to add a hard drive and place all of your games on it. Whether you buy them or pirate them, having all of your games on a menu with much faster load times and not dealing with DVDs is a huge bonus. You can also use XBox Media center to make your XBox an entertainment center for playing mpegs, AVIs, MP3, etc over your home theater.
