The man who killed my father had a 0.26 BAC. His two previous arrests for DUI his BAC was 0.24 and 0.29. He had another conviction in Tennessee where the BAC was not available.Lynks wrote:I feel the same way about people who take lives BUT, do you actually believe there is no hope for someone that kills another while DUI? So at 5:55 a.m. on a chilly Friday morning in November, my father lost his life at the hands of an drunk man who was over 3 times the legal limit. I don't profess to be a good person or a better person than anyone else, but contrary to the "lynch the bastard" mentality that a lot of the community had, I never desired the man be put to death. At this time, he's 3 years in to a 15 year sentence (the maximum allowed under the law). That's 15 years of his daughters lives he'll miss. 15 years without being able to spend time with his wife and family. I think that punishment is harsh enough. On the bright side, the last time my family heard from him, it was through a 2 page, handwritten front and back letter expressing the depth of his remorse and the things he was doing to change his life. The only thing I can do is hope that the next 12 years of his life have a profound impact on him and he becomes a better person and impacts the lives of those around him.
Do I support the death penalty? Absolutely. When the evidence is irrefutable, the DNA exact, the witnesses beyond reproach, and the crime justifies the severity of the punishment. If and only if the above conditions are met, execute them as humanely as possible.
