Doom 3 questions
For those of you whoa re playing it, about how many hours are on the single player campeghn?, and does the game have a good/entertaining storyline
as well as minimal "puzzles" that other shooter games have...aka finding the dumbass hidden switch and guessing the games AI on how you have to find 50 fucking hidden keys to open the main door, wasting 5 hours of your time on a virtual hide and seek...when i play a tactical 1st person shooter game i want to do jus that, not find fucking hidden switches to open the door right in front of me...halo does a great job of keeping shit like that very minimal, does doom 3 do the same?

There's OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of find the keycard, BUT, they are very rarely hidden.
As for minipuzzles, only two or three I can think of off of the top of my head.
You're looking at between 18 and 20hrs of play on the single player mission.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

I thought it was a pretty shitty game to be honest. It looked nice, but if you played the original Halflife, this is essentially that, but with no lights and different graphics. This game does absolutely nothing new or original and the weapons basically suck.
Here's a pretty good web comic site's rant about Doom3:

Xzion: I have heard good things about Farcry, but I've really only played the Demo. I like more realistic shooters, so I like the rainbow six series a lot.
Akaran: I totally agree that Doom 3 is fucking scary. I just don't like games where tactics go out the window. It's total fucking bullshit to come into an empty room, and then have shit randomly spawn all around you. If I clear a room, I want it to stay that way. I don't like it when I grab a weapons cache or a PDA or whatever, and suddenly shit pops out of the wall.
That's really just personal preference though. I've discovered that I really prefer FPSes with realistic weapons, and enemies.
For my money, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was 100 times the game Doom 3 was.
But... like I said, it's personal preference. If other people enjoy Doom 3 I think that's great.
I have high hopes for HL2.

Yeahm I can see your point there. At times, the "horror" was replaced by "you know it's going to happen, just not where".
At that point in the game though, they seemed to realzie what they were doing and just sent in waves of 'em to keep you occupied..
Though there is that one scene where you walk into an empty room, the lights flash, and you're suddenly facing a horde of zombies..

Well, that and that D3 is actually already out, while I'm halfway of the opinion that HL2 is vaporware. =p
Wasn't it due this time, oh, last year?

I liked FarCry. At least the first half of it. Then it went and pulled the 'monsters' bullshit which I didn't really care for. It was a lot more interesting to me hiding out in the jungle trying to sneak up on the bad guys then it was shooting some stupid monsters that could kill you from full armor and health with two hits.
I didn't even bother with Doom3 since I I knew it was basically the same as the last one, just with improved graphics and sound. Which isn't enough to interest me since I actually have an attention span.

Here's the latest on the release date for Half Life 2:
It's not vaproware as I played the leaked game and that was great 6-12 months ago. The company needs more security and to be more responsible but the game will rock. The Half-Life 2 preload has been set back again according to a forum post purporting to be from Valve Software project manager Erik Johnson.
Valve plans to start uploading various assets for the game over its content delivery service Steam ahead of the game's expected September launch - specifically art assets and other static content that won't need to be changed between now and the game's submission to publisher Vivendi-Universal Games.
That process had been set to start on August 18th according to CEO Gabe Newell, and was then set back until yesterday, August 19th, in order for the developer to distribute a benchmark tool that would establish whether the highly anticipated FPS would run on gamers' hardware configurations.
Now though it seems the preload won't begin until Monday August 23rd. Speaking on Shacknews, Johnson said: "We're going to push the start of the preload back until this coming Monday. The main reason was to get out the release (that just happened) to the CS: Source Beta."
