The President's show

Post by Canelek »

GW did a pretty good job tonight. I really don't take much for what any politician has to offer, but he did a decent job tonight. Actually I was quite impressed that he was able to hold on for so long and not lose confidence. Alas, this was all he needed to roll into a second term....his being able to make fun of himself, I think, was the clincher.

Impressive actually. He really looked good tonight.

That being said, I am a Republican so this is somewhat biased--but I tried to take this side at a liberal angle, as many of my social ideals lean that way.

I think is speech was great. The first part was like a state of the union of his proposals and the past of his administration. Then the second part had many emotions in it. Funny, tear jerking and serious on the military aspects of the gov't and 9/11. People need to understand what impact 9/11 had on all proposals afterwards, how it changed everything in decisions afterwards...it was a 1 trillion dollar hit to our economy and we have been moving through it with positive growth, which to me is amazing.

I just heard the same empty promises as 4 years ago...

And lots of references to liberty and freedom...which mean nothing to some one who would knowingly deprive an american citizen of constitutional due process...Or the right to equal treatment under law...I feel sure jefferson would kick him soundly in the balls for his flagrant violations of the rights of man...he sickens me...

I also found offensive his reference to Ronald Regan...knowing that he was fighting to prevent reasearch which has obvious potential to allieviate the suffering of so many people suffering as Regan did...I feel sure
Mrs. Regan would join jefferson...And while I'm not a regan fan I would applaude her as well..

Personally I will doing everything in my power to assure that he is not re-elected...And if I fail...Welp I have offers of couches in Newfoundland and Denmark, and a proper bed or two in Tasmania...I might just go Larry Darrell for a bit...:)...4 years at least...

Bush's speech sounded like.......................his typical campaign stump speech.....................very little was different.......................other than a bunch of programs.......................he can't pay for.

The style they have him using.......................for speeches is irritaiting.......................it takes forever.......................for him to say anything.......................when he stops after every.......................five or six words so.......................he doesn't fuck up.

I'm truly amazed that the.......................crowds have the stamina to.......................continue applauding at ever pause.......................maybe this would explain why.......................they have people sign pledges.......................of loyalty to attend any of his events.......................normal people would stop after.......................their arms got tired.

I tried to turn the tele up so I could hear it from the study, but my wife was asleep on the day bed so I missed most of it. I really wanted to watch it, but I got a space in the WoW Stress Test and we all know which is more important!

Sirton makes me laugh. Bush could have said "Kerry sucks! Vote for me!" and left the stage and Sirton would have posted the same thing.

They must have coached Bush on public speaking for weeks coming up to this. The few times I've seen/heard him speak recently I almost felt bad for him.. yammering, stammering and really making himslef look like a grade school dropout.

He's a fine speaker when he's reading from a teleprompter and when he doesn't get excited.

We'll have to see how he performs in the debates but I really think he's going to get stomped like a narc at a biker rally.

I thought Bush did a pretty great job last night. Yes as Forthe pointed out it got VERY annoying with all the pauses and it make a 30 min speech take well over an hour.

I think he said what he had to say to get re-elected but isn't that what he always says? Bush, while not being sharpest tack in the bunch, has surrounded himself with some very bright people who's only job is to make him look good. Together I think he came across inspiring as the President of the United States of America.

All that being said though if you actually look at the numbers and disect the speech it was nothing but a bunch of misleading stories and promises he can't keep.

To quote Ronald Reagan in 1979 "It's not about what you will do during the next 4 years, it's about what you HAVE done the past 4 years."

If the American people pull their heads out long eought to realize that he can't do all those things he spoke about and cut through the Nationalistic rhetoric Kerry might just be able to win. I definitely thought his rebuttal speech was pretty damn good as well last night. Of course there will always be those people like Cart who bought it all hook-line-and-sinker :)

Cheers!

Notice when they ask the bush advisors if there going to go ahead with the standard 3 debaits and one VP debate they all say "i dont know, wel talk about it later" or some such. I wouldnt be surprised if they look for some excuse to cancil the debates, but even if they do that will still make kerry look good, not as good as after the debates...but still

Cancelling the debates would do Bush more harm than him taking part and doing poorly.

Having said that, I'm really looking forward to the debates. I'm confident that Kerry can hold his own in a debate, he's definately got the upper hand when it comes 'thinking on his feet'... but it will be interesting to see which 'Bush' shows up.
Kerry should try get Bush agitated and uncomfortable. :)

You should take advantage of the long lead time and buy some cheap tickets.

I didn't listen to the speech last night, I was raiding :)

I read the transcript today. I wish I would have listened. There wasn't anything surprising or even controversial. Of course I'm biased but I don't see how he could have hurt himself with that speech and he may have even helped a bit.

Guys, I think your forgetting how well Dubya did 4 years ago in the debates. He is a mast at dodging and misdirecting topics that are put his way. He did very well with this strategy against Gore, and no doubt it will be the same against Kerry.

I would fear the debates if I were a Kerry supporter...dumb people don't get it that he is not answerring the questions, and just smoke screening...they see some guy who is able to talk fast and make sense to someone of less than average IQ....hence they vote for him.

I was shocked to learn that the world would decay if he wasn't re-elected. Debates please, make him think on his feet! (think of which canned response to use that is)

It's the exact same speech he gives everytime he steps to the podium. That could have been his State of the Union address and no one would have known the difference.

All we have left to do now is listen to liberals whine for 2 months and then watch as Bush is reelected.

To the liberals that can't wait for the debates....let me provide your comments after them:

"Bush didn't answer any questions! All he said were the same things again!!!"

Bush wins the debates as well as Cheney. At the very minimum it will be a wash which favors Bush/Cheney. Kerry looks like frankenstein on TV so that won't help much either.

Kerry is playing rope-a-dope, the offensive from him started last night and are continuing today. This is how he's done most of his campaigns.

On Bush's speech - well, I didn't believe one word he said.

heh, i think from now until the end of american history every non-incumbent election and or elections with most incumbent presidents...both sides will always suck ass, with all the attacks they run and all the bullshit the canidates have to do in order to gain votes.

I actually think someone like Nader would make a great president, but unfortunately a canidate who speaks his heart will never be president

pity though since he's not trying to be funny, or enjoyable.

he's trying to get reelected so he can -- RUN YOUR COUNTRY -- that's a big fucking job and not one to be done by the people behind the idiot in front.

mind you so far i've made up my mind on bush and consider him subpar.
i dont have much faith in kerry beeing any better, and how sad is that.

Well Thess, if i is rope-a-dope, then it will be an impressive move. However, I just don't think so....gut feeling and recent history is all I am going on though. You have read far more into it than I have so if you are right, I salute you! :D I just can't compare John Kerry to Muhammed Ali! ;)

Nader...well... I generally like the non-extremist tertiary parties, although I do agree that a politician who does not play politics and manipulate the system will be hard pressed to get many votes.

Personally, if Kerry does manage a victory, I will not be pleased, but I would be able to get over it quickly enough and go about my business. ;)

Win or lose, life goes on. There is much fun to be had and hawt wimminz to enthrall with my Southern charm. ;) (aw damn, been hanging out with Sylvos too long...)

If you're the whiney protestor type, you still can make a difference by voting for Nader instead of Kerry. You're not going to beat Bush this election so show the world that you're fed up by impressing them with the percentage vote for Nader. Let that be your statement!

I only caught a little of it in the car.. though I did have to laugh at "we will make our kids smarter by testing them". We won't spend any more money, we'll just raise the pass mark. Isn't that what he already did w/ "no child left behind"?

Then he turns around and attacks Kerry on the basis of spending! roflmao...

Unfortunately the format of debates has nothign to do withthinking on one's feet. 2 mins to reply to a question. The questions will all have subjects to which Bush and Kerry will have prepared answers. Sure, they might not exactly answer the questions, but it will be close enough when they recite the 100 seconds on a topic with a couple sound bites repeated a few times.

If they want a real debate (Bush would never agree to the format), they would have 15 mins or more to reply in detail to questions asked by a moderator or by the opposing candidate, with follow up questions to extract more details.

Bush will do very well in what passes for *debate* - anyone with a good speach writer would.

I find it so sad that the debates are scripted here. Back home they have live debates between 2-6 candidates depending on the format with live questions from both the debate leader and the audience. Can get pretty heated at times.
