If you could go back in time (republicans and others)
If you could go back in time and potentially avoid the shithole that were in now, who would you have voted for in the 2000 republican primarys (man, how the hell did you dumbasses elect george dubyah over McCain, maybe it was because you all bought the swiftboat bullshit they used on Mccain too)
I would have to say that id rather have McCain be president over Al Gore. He would have potentially gone down in history as a "great president" with his reactions to 9/11 and the war on terror, that would have been absent of Iraq

I too would have voted McCain.. if I were an American etc. He has charisma, he has intelligence, and he has a public face that a person can respect. He's a moderate and not an extremist. He's presidential material. He just didn't have the friends in the right places to make dirty stabs at the other guys reputation.

I don't remember what Mc's issues were at the time to correctly answer this question.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

McCain's not moderate at all. he's a lot more conservative than Bush is in areas where it matters. He is just less convservative when it comes to personal liberties and fundamental human rights. even in those areas he is really conservative but a lot more likely to let people live their lives how they want. it's this whole crazy liberal philosophy about personal responsibility.
since the christian right has appointed themselves moral policemen of the world, they don't like thim much.

McCain was my choice in 2000. I don't know if he can hang on for another 4 years but he has the best chance to be president in 2008 of the potential candidates I see so far on both sides for the next election.
He's earned a lot of respect.
Swapping Cheney for McCain as Vice President would be a good move for the republicans but that's not going to happen.

I don't like McCain personally.
I don't like how he can support and promote a man who attacked his child, wife and war record (all of these are hitting far below the belt).
His voting record pretty much goes completely against what I believe.
The only good thing about him really is the fact that he knows when an issue is just for political gain and is a waste of time.

I voted for McCain then, and I'll do it again if he runs in 2008.

which must be why he is sucking up to Bush this year.masteen wrote:I voted for McCain then, and I'll do it again if he runs in 2008.
I cannot understand how he can support somebody who push-polled in South Carolina with questions about John McCain having a black child. He has an adopted child from Bangladesh, but it is obvious, the Bush supporters were race-baiting with the push-polling.
I really like McCain, but i just dont understand his current stance.
It's impossible to not suck up or make some borderline votes if you hope to advance in the political arena. That's why any candidate will always have something in their history that can be targeted by the opposition.Voronwë wrote:which must be why he is sucking up to Bush this year.masteen wrote:I voted for McCain then, and I'll do it again if he runs in 2008.

Hillary wins. After 8 years of Bush the Democrats show some unity. McCain alienates the far right and they splinter off and vote for someone like Pat Buchanan.Metanis wrote:So Bush gets reelected this year. Jeb is a fine governator. His environmental policy needs some work (too much big sugar $$), but overall he's done a decent job. Plus he's married to a Cuban lady, which guaranfuckingtees him Florida, plus makes him the only GOP candidate since Reagan who could possibly swing California.

His expression was hilarious on the daily show a while back. When Stewart asked who he would support in the 2004 elections McCain rolled his eyes, paused, took a deep sighn and then said with a sad-like expression on his face "ehh im supporting Bush....supporting Bush"Voronwë wrote:which must be why he is sucking up to Bush this year.masteen wrote:I voted for McCain then, and I'll do it again if he runs in 2008.

I do think it is a cowardly move with some ulterior motive to support Bush publicly, although i wouldnt be surprised that when hes alone in that voting Booth hes gonna cast a vote for Kerry.
Not that it matters anyways, GODAMN did you see the election margins in Washington DC...Kerry is up by OVER 75% points, Bush holds a whopping 9% in his workplace! Not to be surprised the biggest Bush supporting state is whacked-out fucking mormon country (utah) with over 45% points
for some reason i really dont think he wants to run for president again, i could be compleatly wrong though. Guliani would be a great "new republican" liberal face for the party to challenge Kerry in 2008

Personally I don't like either Bush or McCain. McCain if for nothing else than his role in pushing through the horrible Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act. He was also involved in the big tobacco settlement and a few other things I didn't particularly agree with.

Seeing as you're views are a little whackier than most Chmee. Who do you like as a potential presidential candidate?Chmee wrote:Personally I don't like either Bush or McCain.
