Request! Sandwich mania!

Post by Drolgin Steingrinder »

I want sandwiches. Lots of them. Give me your favorite sammich recipes, tricks, ideas etcetcetc.

Current favorite here is a leg of lamb-potato-feta-tzatziki-olive sandwich on a sort of chewy focaccia-style bread, with a little chili tapernada. Only problem with it is it always tends to overflow and spill ><

Um ok...

My favorite sandwich is:

Peppered Turkey on Kalamata Olive bread with sundried tomato spread on one piece of bread and pesto on the other, havarti cheese, lettuce and tomato!

The deli that made it to perfection, unfortunately, closed :(

lol. I am reading these sandwiches you are listing and thinking "Wow. Who comes up with these combinations? Drolgin, was yours a deli-special too or is this all stuff you regularly keep in the refrigerator?

My favorite is toasted ham, salami and provalone cheese on rye (I hate "mashmallow" bread with a passion).

I used to live next door to the world's best little deli - ok well, close, anyway. The two brothers who ran it were a blast, kurdish immigrants who would joke around with everyone all the time, and they knew *everyone*. Once, a friend of my sisters stopped by that store and they asked her if she lived around here - she replied that she was just visiting a friend who lived nextdoor. The guy responded, 'Karen? Oh you're KAREN's friend? Here, take this tea to her, I think she'll like it. Want some extra bread with that feta cheese?'

They went out of business (too much talk and not enough selling ><) but Khamal's favorite sandwich still stands as a shining beacon in the realm of uber sandwiches.

Err...tl;dr? anyway, yes - it's a deli sandwich but I usually have potatoes for a fast potatosalad, feta, olives and tzatziki in the kitchen. Meat is the trixy part!

Melt butter in skillet, and coat both sides of two slices of wheat bread with melted butter. Place extra sharp cheddar cheese between slices with maybe just a bit more butter. Fry until golden and crispy.

Throw in some tomatoes, bacon, or ham if you're feeling frisky.

Alternately...

Ciabatta with buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, beefsteak tomato, cracked pepper, sea salt, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar.

additionally...

Ciabatta with sliced strawberries, balsamic vinaigrette, bacon, cracked pepper, and field greens.

or...

Sourdough with tuna, red onion, niçoise olives, capers, parmesan cheese, olive oil, cracked pepper, tomato, field greens, and a splash of vinegar.

and...

Torta bun (buttered Mexican bread) with avocado, lettuce, mayonesa (mayonnaise with lime juice), tomato, red onion, and either adobo pork or carnitas -- served warm.

also...

Naan (Indian flatbread) with cream cheese, tomato, avocado, sprouts, honey mustard, fresh salt and pepper, green bell pepper, and thyme -- served warm.

one more...

Buttermilk bread (lightly toasted), crisp applewood smoked bacon, iceberg lettuce, fried green tomatoes, mayo, pepper, sharp cheddar cheese.

edit:: Oh, and just a really good fresh baguette with triple creme brie and butter, heated up slightly, is amazingly comforting. I don't even want to know how fattening it is, though. We first heard about that one from watching Twin Peaks back in the day. We thought we'd give it a shot, and were *so* glad we did!

Leave out the pesto, add some good olive oil and substitute the chevre with some good aged Provolone and you have mine

My favorite sammich:

Ciabatta (sub. any decent crusty bread that's available), smoked ham, gruyere, salad greens, salt & pepper and sweet creole mustard sauce (3 parts peach preserves, 3 parts creole mustard, 1 part prepared horseradish, 2 parts plain yogurt).

Spread the sauce evenly on both halves of the bread, pile on the ham and gruyere. Toss greens in a bit of the sauce and top the sandwich with them. Add S&P to taste.
