The Los Angeles Lakers resumed their makeover Friday by trading Gary Payton and Rick Fox to the Boston Celtics for Chucky Atkins, Marcus Banks and Chris Mihm.

The Celtics also received a conditional first-round draft pick and cash in the deal and sent a second-round pick to the Western Conference champions.

Mitten?!? Wtf?

Anyway, trading Gary is probably a good deal even though I believe he would be way better out of the triangle offense. Rick Fox is getting old as well but is a decent defender and has 3-point range.

Well took me a few minutes to get the reference there (one of the hardest things of having English as a non-primary language is to get things like that..), but then it made me laugh as well! Now I can't get the visual of the Arby's ovenmitt running around on a basketball court talking trash like Payton out of my head!

I loved Payton back in the mid 90's Sonic team. He was great. Standing out there jawing and talking trash to everyone. Even during the Finals against the Bulls. Man, those were some good games.

It was a good move for the Celts. They want to play Delonte West and Al Jefferson.......so Marcus Banks was expendable. They got a #1 pick that could end up in the mid-teens to replace Banks at any point in the next few years. They lost no one that would start...and they gained 2 players whose contracts expire after this year. Fox can even be bought out now or he can opt to retire now.

If Payton can still play offensively a bit, he could thrive with Paul Pierce and the young guys the C's have.
