This is news?

JOHANNESBURG, S. Africa (Reuters) -- A South African woman mistakenly plunked a 100-year-old gold coin worth more than $1,000 into a parking meter while shopping without her glasses, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
It's a sad day when a $1,000 screw up makes the news. The next time I get into a fender bender and it costs more than $1,000 to repair, I hope I make the international news.

"I accidentally put my car into reverse and hit a sign"

The mishap caused $1000.00 in damage to the automobile.

Come on Voro! Have a talk with some of the people over there at CNN!

Pfftt, it's called a "human interest" story...

I'm more concerned that Jenna sticking her tongue out like a spoilt brat is "news", and not only in the US, but around the world.

Never thought I'd say it, but the "free press" needs to be held accountable for creating news.. and I'd take that all the way from "reporting on someone poking their tongue at reporters" to "nightly hostage videos"

Rummy is saying it's all the Philippines fault, but what would be your motivation to make videotapes of killing people be if the news refused to show that shit? Hell, the press isn't even an "encouragement" to terrorism, it's an enabler.

The reason that is news and a fenderbender is not is because it doesn't happen every day. I find it amusing to read stuff like that and it makes me feel sorry for the person involved.

if you go back to the story you will notice a blue box called "Your Email Alerts" and one of the two categories is "Offbeat".

This is actually a fairly popular Email ALert to subscribe to (trying to think of most subscribed...Scott Peterson or Martha Stewart i think), and this is basically the kind of story that you'd get emailed to you if you subscribed to that. I used to get these, some are funny as shit :). Its no "News of the Wierd" though :p

more interesting than this one. And it's not even in the oddly enough section.
