"Casino ejects Ronstadt over 'Fahrenheit' praise"

I wonder if thats what she is singing now!

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/0 ... index.html

Ronstadt, who had been hired for a one-show engagement Saturday night at the Las Vegas Strip casino, dedicated a performance of "Desperado" to Moore and his controversial documentary, which criticizes President Bush and the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

That dedication angered some Aladdin guests who spilled drinks, tore down posters and demanded their money back, said casino spokeswoman Sara Gorgon.

"We had quite a scene at the box office," she said.

About a quarter of the 4,500 people in the audience got up and left before the performance had finished, Gorgon said.

Before her concert, Ronstadt had laughingly told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she hoped that the casino performance would be her last.

"I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back," she was quoted as telling the newspaper.

A statement issued by the Aladdin said Ronstadt had been "escorted out of the hotel" just after her performance and said the performer would "not be welcomed back."

"Ms. Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse political views," the casino said.

Ronstadt was not immediately available for comment

IMO, the patrons acted out of line and disrupted the show. They should have been the ones kicked out for acting like children.

About 1,200 ppl stormed out and requested their money back and im sure there were more that didnt have the balls to ask for it back. I think the casino should of just pulled the plug on her but not kick her out. Of course she said that she was trying to fired.

Seems that it was her wish to get booted or to have her contract terminated. The fastest way to do that is to criticize our president.

I will agree with the patrons though, this was not the place to tell everyone about your political views. I certainly wouldn't want to go to the theatre or a performance and have one of the actors/singers talk about how great Bush is. I'd probably throw something at them for idiocy.

Shows what kind of fanatical fucking idiots we have running around in our country

If Dave Chapelle praised president Bush and bashed the libertarian party in a stand up comedy performance presented to Jerry Falwell,
I would still laugh my ass off at his next Clayton Bigsby skit.

That would never happen in vegas. They are so desperate for you to come back, that they will fire anyone remotely related in hopes to appease you.

Poor judgement on Ronstadt's part. People go to Vegas to feel rich and, if just for one fleeting moment, live the fantasy life of wealthy conservatives. Preaching about Moore would have been more successful at a charity event in a run down auditorium...no seriously :!:

On a more serious note, politics need to stay out of entertainment performances on both sides. I could care less about entertainers voicing their opinions but most people are there for whatever the entertainer specializes in and don't want to be spammed with political views on their night out. There's plenty of time for actors etc to voice their opinions on talk shows and E.

Well.. Whoppi Goldberg got fired from Slim Fast spokeswomaning for bashing Bush (using his name in a sexual context in jokes!) at a Kerry fundraiser. Seems like a fine time to voice ones opinion to me.

Appearantly a group of the guests applauded her after the dedication.
Should the casino have kicked them out too?

Yep, imo the guests that cannot find out how to behave should have been kicked out, not the singer.

Casino pays singer

Guests pay casino

Ronstadt is not worth sucking up to while guests pay the bills and will return if kept happy.

I'd feel the same way if she would have been spouting off about any controversial political issue. That shit isn't for a vegas floor act. They should stick to the Elvis impersonators for those shows!

Who listens to Linda Ronstadt anymore but old white people? Old white people that saved a ton of cash last year on Bush's tax cuts. She deserved to get canned, if for nothing else not being smart enough to know her audience. Besides, I think people are getting tired of having entertainers shove politics down their throat all the time.

Open note to entertainers: just because you can cry on cue, or you have a nice rack, or you can sing- please don't think your opinion of, or knowledge about, a political or economical or social situation is any more valid than mine. After a hard day of F5'ing VV, I want my entertainment politics free, god damn it!
