New Monsoon

Post by Xzion »

Great new Jam band i heard about recently. They remind me of STI with a little more of a new age/jazz edge opposed to bluegrass, highly recomended for anyone into Phish, STI, Moe. or the genre in general

I think you mean SCI, not STI, as in String Cheese Incident. I was at Red Rocks this past weekend and saw them perform with the Allman Bros. Warren Haynes and Derrek Trucks kick much ass, and Red Rocks is just amazing. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it.

I've seen New Monsoon about six times now, and they keep picking up speed. They lost their original bassist (Heath) almost a year ago. He wasn't just the bassist. He was also a songwriter and lead singer. When he left, I thought that they might lose some steam. Was I wrong! We saw them in March when they played from midnight to 4:30 in the morning for two shows. We recently saw them with Tea Leaf Green in Virginia. They have three very talented percussionists (Marty on kit, Brian on Bongos, and Rajiv on tablas) who blend world beat music with a variety of instruments. Bo on banjo/acoustic guitar is very fun to watch, and is an incredibly nice guy. Jeff on lead guitar feels the rhythm and is always in tune with the crowd, playing with a style remniscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Phil on keyboards adds another layer to this very dynamic group. All in all, good stuff. See them before they get HUGE! It's just a matter of time.
