I'll take either Adrian Beltre (.322, 22HR, 55RBI) or Aramis Ramirez(.326, 15HR, 56RBI) over Barry Larkin in the NL. Barry's one of the best at his position over the last 20 years... but I'm not a fan of someone being 'grandfathered' into the all star game. He's not having an all-star year.
Do they still have a rule about every team being represented? I'm assuming that's the only reason Ted Lily and Esteban Loaiza made the team over Pedro Martinez (8-3, 3.74ERA, 105Ks).

Starting? Giambi shouldn't even be a reserve. I also think Young and Blalock deserve the start over Jeter and A-Rod. Gotta love that NY media. The biggest beef I have is Jason Giambi starting.

Yea, there's still the rule about every team being represented. I believe Pedro turned down the invitation before he was even invited anyway.
I disagree with taking Esteban Loaiza from the Sox. Paul Konerko has probably been the best hitter on the team the first half, but if you were going to take a pitcher I would think you would go with Mark Beurhle over Loaiza.
Carl Crawford should get the start over Ichiro based not only on pure stats but also what him and his team have accomplished this year. But these Japanese players get so much internet voting support from overseas, it would be impossible for a non-household name like Crawford to get the recognition.

This topic has brought up a point that I think should be discussed for my entertainment.
The rule that each MLB team must send at least one representative to the All-Star game.
What are everyone's thoughts on this rule? Should they allow this or not? If they do, do they elect the best player statistically from the team or the player that fills a gap on the reserve list?
Discuss.

Griffey, Sosa, and Giambi shouldn't be on there.
I on the one player per team issue, I'm for it. Sure there was a guy or two missed as a result of it, but each team should have at least one all-star. It's shitty for business in those towns if you don't.
And how about that St. Louis infield? Jesus, they're numbers are wicked

Hey, it's just the All Star Game...thanks Roger for giving the AL the home field for the World Series.Chidoro wrote:and?
Randy ain't even going to be a Diamondback in August leaving you with little to root for.
But hey, GO ALL STAR GAME!
Does it matter what team Randy Johnson is on or how many times Roger Clemens comes back from retirement? With home field on the line they should have pulled his ass after the second home run.
You'd be surprised but in AZ we're thankful for Randy giving us a World Series and a lot of the home team supporters want Randy to be traded for another chance at a world series. He picked up 4 straight Cy Youngs, went from under 3k to over 4K K's with the Diamondbacks and was the Co_MVP of our World Series title over the Yankees in one of the best World Series in recent history.
I hope he gets traded. It will help our team and there won't be any hard feelings at all.
