The Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics has released a new 50-page policy report, Pharmacotherapy and the Future of the Drug War that warns that the war on drugs may be about to enter a new era “that expands the drug war battlefield from the Colombian coca farms and the Middle Eastern poppy fields, to a new terrain directly inside the bodies and brains of drug users.” From CCLE:

The report is the first comprehensive and critical analysis of ‘pharmacotherapy,’ the use of new medications designed to block the effects of illegal drugs. While acknowledging that such pharmacological aids may well benefit people who voluntarily chose to use them, the CCLE report raises concerns about potential coercive use.
As they say, certainly could have some beneficial effects. But the possibility at least of some ethically more dubious uses.
No nation was ever ruined by trade.

If you're a college kid that started speeding to get through finals, ok.. you had a transitory need and this kind of response suppression will probably help you kick the habit.

If you're a negro living in a slum who uses drugs to escape the crushing weight of your dreary existence, then I doubt this will make a lick of difference.

The US can't win the "war on drugs" by treating the symptoms.

Well, seeing how Bush handled the War on Iraq, i would sure as hell not see him trying to have a "war agains drugs" on his own soil. /em watches in horror as millions of people living in slums are send off to "camps" :D
