Thinking about adding a third computer to one modem...

Post by Akaran_D »

Going to need a new rotuer to do so.
I've heard that linksys has gotten better, but it used to be that it was insanely unstable with htings like EQ, PS, and the like. Does anyone know if this has changed?

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

#1 problem i've seen with linksys routers is that most games require an MTU setting to be set in the router. By default its disabled. Once set to 1500 I had never had problems (and I never had problems with EQ etc.. only AC2 beta).

I had a lynksys a couple years ago and ended up having some zone blocking issues. I would enter a zone and go LD when zoning and was unable to log back in...I had to have a friend get me out of the zone so I couls play until I got a new router.

I ended up getting a DLink. They are cheap and sorta have a poor rep I think, but it has been very reliable for me...I like it a lot.

Any Netgear, Dlink, Linksys, or Microsoft WLAN/LAN router/firewall should be fine. My preference is Netgear until Cisco, who recently purchased Linksys, offers a better UI than what was originally on the Linksys products. I've never had a problem running anything on my old Linksys or my current Netgear router/firewall.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

I bought a newer model Linksys router last week, put the latest patches on, and everything works out of the box.

There is now a default MTU of 1500, or you can tweak it to something else if needed.

I bought the 4-port 802.11(g).

I've ran Linksys router/firewall for as long as I can remember with up to 6 computers (several of us playing) running EQ, DAoC, L2, AO etc. Only problem I ever had was with LDoN and one computer with an OLD AMD motherboard. For some reason it refused to run LDoN accounts. Else than that the router works great.

I have run an SMS Barricade for a few years with absolutely zero hassles with multiple machines running EQ, Planetside, DAoC, CoH, etc etc.

Not as costly as Linksys or Netgear and pretty simple to set up.
