An american tourist who visits a Scandinavian country with arrogance as his or her shield, however, will be treated quite coldly. But if the first impression is one of interest and not one of robber-baron, then most doors are open.
Amen. I have lots of American friends who have visited Norway and said Scandinavians are the friendliest people ever once you realize we don't have the "false courtesy" that is common in many places. Ie, we wont say "bless you" if you sneeze, we most likely wont start a conversation on the train.. but ask a question or start talking and you will see we are quite friendly :)

Admittedly, back in the day (early-mid 70s), US dignitaries visiting Scandinavia were often greeted with demonstrations, marches, angry newspaper columns etc., but that was because of the Vietnam war. And maybe a US marine visiting Copenhagen or Stockholm in 1973 would be greeted with anger, but ... he was treated the same in his home country.

Scandinavians (and especially Sweden) has a reputation for being US-critical, and on a political level we are. No shame in that, it's (mostly) a reasonable, intelligent debate, but certain fundamentalist citizens of the United States seem to take criticism - regardless of the spirit it was offered in - as an insult rather than an invitation to debate. And, admittedly, some scandinavians are not reasonable and not intelligent - again, mostly the swedes ;) .

I digress...

Don't be such a dumbass. If you migrate to another country then you obviously find something better there than whence you came.

As far as your native American crack, take your head out of your ass. Of course America is not better off without the native Americans, we also had thousands of African slaves. Here is a history lesson for you, it's called the past. While I'm giving history lessons, here is another, America did not invent slavery or the slaughtering of indigenous peoples. I am not trivializing these terrible acts, just saying there is nothing I nor you can do about them now. Every country on Earth has past deeds they are not proud of.

And no, Americans are not better than anyone else, most of us just think we are. I will concede you this one, the rest of your statements are just garbage.

I should have just saved myself a couple of minutes and just called you a moron instead.

I used to have to deal with tourists a lot as a bartender years ago and I have to agree that the American tourists and Navy were the worst I encountered. I remember USA hockey player once gave me "permission" to go home with him and wouldn't take "no" for an answer until told by several large men.

That said, there are also a lot of really cool USA citizens that I've been fortunate to meet here and when travelling. It is sad that the jerks give them such a bad name.
