Fuck it, I have both now! And combined with the fail over capability of WinRoute Pro Firewall, I now have redundant internet access at home! Welcome me to supreme geekdom...
The truth is, that while the cable company offers Static IPs, they block all major server ports (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc...), but they do offer a 3Mbit connection, yes I get about 300kps+ downloads all the time. So it's hard to give that up for a DSL connection with half the speed (local DSL is not more than 1.5Mbit), but the DSL company does offer Static IPs AND they don't block any ports. They specifically allow you to run servers if you want.
DSL or Cable?
