BUG: Spontaneous resolution changes

Post by archeiron »

I have a nearly brand spanking new comp that I built (for Christmas) and it has been running beautifully for the past month.

I haven't installed any new software recently and I have been religiously running Windows Updates, virus protections, spybot, etc.

Every now and then I am experiencing a very unusual problem.

Just as I sign on, the resolution drops from 1280x to 1024x. If I restore the screen resolution, everything is fine except that it appears that I have lost anti-aliasing on all text (i.e. all text appears blocky and digitally fuxx0r'd).

If I use system restore, then everything is fine and I won't have the problem for a number of days (it seems to be random).

Drivers are all up to date and Windows Updates are current (everything, not just the critical ones).

I am running a P4 2.6 on an ABIT IC7 MB with a Radeon 9600 graphics card.

I am stumped by this unusual behaviour, any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what is causing this problem, but you have to be careful what updates you install. Saying you haven't installed any new software and saying you patch your computer on a regular basis is contradictive. Treat patches and driver updates like new software. It's new in the sense that it will introduce something on your computer that wasn't there before.
When the world is mine, your death shall be quick and painless.
