B.C.
Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: Intrepid
Release Date: TBD 2004
Why it will rock: The same Peter Molyneux --he's Intrepid's daddy too by way of Lionhead Studios-- could've called this the greatest role playing game of all time, but there's far more action in B.C. for it to be limited to the RPG category. He did however say it will be the bloodiest game of all time, so there's the hyperbole you need. Big nasty dinosaurs and cavewomen in skimpy outfits will be the highlights of this innovative game that will have players using their 21st century intelligence to guide primitive humans in their quest for survival in a cruel prehistoric world. You'll have a simple action interface that will help you get stuff done as well as demonstrate important new skills and abilities that members of your tribe will need to learn if they're to out-evolve the treacherous primate tribe. All that anthropological crap aside, this game is going to be about slaughtering a giant Tyrannosaurus Rex or two at regular intervals using nothing more advanced than sticks, stones and bones. Merely calling a T-Rex names would never hurt it.
Is it bad that I will look forward to playing any game billed as "the bloodiest game of all time"? I remember renting a Sega Genesis game in like 1990, I think it was one of the first mature rated videogames of all time. Can't remember the name of it though, I'm sure one of you knows.

Resident Evil was ultimately released on the PlayStation with a mature rating. It was one of the first games in the broader action genre to receive the mature rating from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.
However, the subject of mature ratings and the ESRB can't be discussed without mentioning Midway's Mortal Kombat. The arcade fight game was the first title to receive a mature rating and, along with Night Trap, was responsible for the chain of events that led to the establishment of the ESRB.
Pretty sure you're referring to Techno Cop. It was a driving type game where you only rode a Ferrari (I think) to certain places that would start up side scrolling missions. When you shot the people during the side scrolling action, they blew up with nice blood splatters. Pretty lousy game from what I understand but one of the first to go over the top when killing the enemy
Jesus, why the hell do I remember that useless tidbit of info
Techno Cop sounds like it might be the one I'm thinking of. If I remember correctly, you could choose a non-lethal weapon (net gun or something like that) or you could just blast the bad guys until their chest exploded and they'd lie twitching on the ground in a pool of entrails.
It sucked for the most part, but I remember hearing that you couldn't buy/rent it if you weren't 18 and I just had to play it as a result.
