Eidos confirmed today what GameSpot reported last week: the third installment in the Thief series will indeed be called Thief: Deadly Shadows.
One facet of the game, still in development at Ion Storm, was news today. The game will support what publisher Eidos is calling a "third-person cinematic action view." This new perspective will be in addition to the series' traditional first-person view, which was first created by long-defunct developer Looking Glass Studios.
Eidos also released a number of new screens to whet gamers' appetites (see above). Thief: Deadly shadows is not yet rated, but is due this Spring on both Xbox and the PC.
I'm sure there will be someone who will post that I'm overreacting because I haven't seen the game yet, etc. etc. but...
I DON'T WANT FUCKING THIRD PERSON!
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
I had a look at the graphics a while back, it looks like a tweaked Might and Magic game, the body and environment may be 3D, but fuck me if it dont look shit.
It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.
In Thief: Deadly Shadows, gamers will be able to play in either third person or first person perspectives, and shift seamlessly between each on the fly
Don't play in 3rd person if you don't want to. Simple as that. Now stop over-reacting

I kind of see where Aranuil is coming from on this. I loved Deus Ex, and played it through completely. Enjoyed it all really. Just finished Deus Ex:2 and it just wasn't as good. They changed the whole feel of it. Made it more shooter and less RPG.
I have a feeling that difficulty wise...this game will be very watered down. That said, I'll probably still buy it because i'm a fanatic for the series.
There was nothing like forgetting to quick save and losing several hours of work the first time through.
After being all excited about DE:2 I have to agree with the above. It's ok, but not great (not even close). With respect to Warren Spector - he needs to surround himself with a better team if Thief 3 is gonna even come close to equalling it's predecessors.
