Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu

Post by noel »

I'm a pretty big Batman fan, but as most of you know, rarely is there a video game based on a superhero that doesn't suck. The last few times I was in Best Buy, I noticed the box for Batman: RoST, and I finally remembered to read a few reviews of it. The reviews were actually pretty positive, so I picked it up.

If you're familiar with the character advancement/game play styles of LotR:RotK, the BM:RoST follows suit. The animations are well done, and in the spirit of Batman The Animated Series, and the game play is a blast. When starting the game, you can choose story mode or versus mode (I haven't played with that yet), and choose to play as Batman, Nightwing, Robin, or Batgirl. Then you basically go out into Gotham, and LAY SOME FUCKING WASTE to crime everywhere. The ideal is to enter combat with the hordes of criminals that come after you, rescue civilians, disarm bombs, and generally beat the living shit out of all that oppose you.

At the end of each level, you’re evaluated on your performance in the level including, number of consecutive hits without being hit, use of utility belt gear, and time to targets. Targets might be either bombs to be defused or civilians to be rescued. You're given experience for each of these things (mostly combat performance), and you can use the experience points to buy upgraded special moves.

The cut scenes are cool, and the game is mindless fun. I recommend it. :)

Cool - I'm a batman fan as well, and going to purchase a PS2 as soon as my loan from work comes in. I'll check this game out.

Apparently Ubisoft published another Batman game called: Batman Vengeance. It preceded the release of RoST, but was more adventure oriented and less action oriented. This one is far more action oriented but with a decent production value. A nice feature is that two people can play against the game cooperatively if they so choose.

From the official site:
Battle the evil forces of Gotham City by yourself or with a friend. Two Players can fight the forces of evil as the Dynamic Duo, Batman and Robin; or choose to control Nightwing or Batgirl!
Here's some representative art:

As I understand it, the GBA version is not the same game, but rather a very scaled down side perspective version of the game which is why I didn't include it in the platforms the game was available for. Additionally, it's not currently available on the GBA at all. Soon though.

Funny, I played it three weeks ago. Briefly.

Next!

As to how they compare, no idea. I'd imagine most GBA ports are scaled down versions.

The game I've played that it is most similar to is 'Return of the King'. I've said it before on this thread, but it bears repeating that this game is mindless fun. I think it's definitely worth a rental, and maybe not more than that.

Sorry to bring back a 2 month old thread -- I just thought that I would mention that with the gift cards that I've aquired in the holidays, I ordered the PS2 and 3 games off of the wal-mart web site, and I bought this game from Best Buy for $20. Can't wait until the console arrives for me to give it a play.
