This isn't going to turn into a "Laces Out" thing is it?

I dunno, he took fulll responsibility for the mistake with the press after the game.

He's a hell of a kicker, everyone makes a mistake.

typical saints football.

it's so difficult to be a saints fan. they self destruct every year.

carney is one of the best place kickers ever, so i will forgive him this one mistake, although it was a very HUGE mistake.

While not at the same level, watching the Eagles game elicited similar feelings

Disregarding that game, he had gone 2/7 in field goals in the previous couple weeks. He's on my fantasy football team and I didn't play him strictly for that reason. With that loss on his shoulders, I'd definitely start looking for a new kicker for next season. Poor guy.

i feel sorry for the guy

you can't really blame him for your season though because you guys were already eliminated from playoff contention 2 weeks ago

now if you all needed him to make that kick to stay in playoff contention, then i say string him up

me on the other hand, i do not have to worry about such playoff craziness because the Lions are automatically out of the playoffs before the first preseason snap, so in southeast Michigan, college football is king

We were not eliminated until sundays loss. Yes, we would have needed help from other teams but thats not really the point. Carney had been bitching about his holder for weeks now, and in the end he let it effect his kicking game and it cost the saints even a glimmer of hope of making the playoffs. I would say the reason the saints missed the playoffs is put squarly on the shoulders of Aaron Brooks who for the life of him, could not hold on to the damn ball. I will tell you this though, if it were Ray Lewis brought in to make a PAT in that situation, that kick is good and he's not even a kicker.

The Saints made a hell of a 4th qtr. play with no time left on the clock to score a TD, after about 4 or 5 laterals to different players, making the score 29-30. Carney missed the PAT that would have tied it up and sent the game into overtime.

It should also be known that John Carney is one of the best PAT kickers in the history of the game. (third actually) He had made his previous 180 (in that region, not sure exactly) PAT's and missed at the absolutely worst time. And, yes, it cost them the playoff's, though they would have just as easily been eliminated from GB's win last night.

It's just totally fustrating to see the saints play so mediocre when they should be the #1 offense in the league by far. There is zero intensity from this team and I have no clue what Haslett is instilling into them, but it sure isn't a winning attitude. I can only begin to imagine what this team could do if they actually played with some fire under their ass week in and week out. Would be nice to see a couple of people on the Saints play with the passion of a Ray Lewis for a change.

although they weren't officially eliminated till this week, i contest that they in fact eliminated two weeks ago when they lost to the Bucs to drop to 6-7

if they would have won vs the Bucs, the saints would have been 7-6 heading into week 14 but still would have needed a lot of help (as in all of the following teams losing all of their remaining games) to get in because they lost the tiebreaker to Seattle and both Minnesota and Green Bay won their tie breakers vs Seattle

therefore Minnesota and Green Bay > Seattle > N.O.

if N.O won out and finished 10-6, and all of the those teams finished 9-7 then that is the only way the Saints get into the playoffs (remind you that this is if they had won vs the Bucs 2 weeks ago)

They were not out of it two weeks ago. Even if the chances were retardedly slim, its not an elimination until they are mathmatically gone from the playoff picture. But yes, they messed up by losing to Tampa and Aaron Brooks having one of his typical 2 to 4 fumble games.

Wow... Sounds like an awesome play. Anyone have a link to a clip of it?

Clip can be found here:

Click on the Vote for play of the week, and select the clip from the pop-up.

I guess it was only 3 laterals, but still impressive.
