Like most award lists, I don't really agree with a lot of what's here. Here are my choices for the most notable fuckups:
Game of the Year - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (probably lack of platforms hurt it though)
Best Action Game - Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne
Best Driving Game - Need For Speed Underground (or anything else NOT NASCAR)
Best Game Based on a Movie - LotR: Return of the King (Enter the Matrix MY ASS)
Best Music in a Game - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Most Anticipated Game - World of Warcraft (incidentally it wasn't one of the choices)
Best PC Game - Battlefield 1942, Warcraft III, and Max Payne 2 were all choices here... How anyone can choose a second rate console game is beyond me...
Best Online Game - Planetside (Beta prior to the Devs fucking it over ONLY)
Best Fighting Game - Soul Calibur II (Fuck WWE)
Best First Person Shooter - Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield (PC)
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
[*]Most Anticipated Game - World of Warcraft (incidentally it wasn't one of the choices)
Perhaps they mean anticipated as in.. Like actually coming out within the next year. Or something.
[*]Best PC Game - Battlefield 1942, Warcraft III, and Max Payne 2 were all choices here... How anyone can choose a second rate console game is beyond me...
WC3 is just more of the same. More evolutionary than revolutionary. Not sure how second rate Halo is but it's gotten nothing but good reviews that I've seen.
[*]Best Online Game - Planetside (Beta prior to the Devs fucking it over ONLY)
Look, if you're going to choose a best PC game, it shouldn't be a fucking console port. Halo is a shitty stupid game with giggling, neon aliens that look ridiculous. I realize it got good reviews, but it got them from 10 year olds. There are plenty of far better PC game within the same genre.
Additionally, *I* didn't like WC3, but a lot of people did, and swear it's the shit. As much as I didn't like it, it's still worlds above the piece of overhyped shit that Halo is. I was simply pointing out that there were actual good, PC games in that category that could have been chosen instead.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
I knew the whole show was going to be bullshit, It was put together quickly and stupidly. It was like they were watching G4 and decided "hey we can do this, lets make a few calls, hows tuesday feel for you?"
Maden 2004? thats complete bullshit, all they do is take last years version and tweak up the graphics a bit,
sports games shouldnt be entitled to get awards, if i want to play a sport il go outside and do it
Umm Aslanna, how am I being cranky? And where did I say anything even remotely like your opinion wasn't valid or that you weren't allowed to disagree with my choices (which mean jack btw). I simply refuted your point. I really, really, really hate Halo. I've played it on both platforms, and I just did not like it at all. Sorry if I offended you.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
The only reason EA games made the list is so they'd have some excuse to bring out some bands. Personally I like ESPN NFL 2k4 over Madden. Much MUCH tighter gameplay. Madden has more turnovers due to fumbles/interceptions then there will ever EVER be in a real football game. Not to mention once a player gets knocked down it takes them literally 10-15 seconds just to stand back up.
I don't know, I think that Madden 2k4 is the best football game I've ever played. Doing the whole franchise thing is almost like another game entirely, sometimes I just simulate all of the games in a season and do the draft and training camp and setting ticket prices and upgrading the stadium and stuff. I agree that they should have toned the turnovers down, but you can adjust all that stuff in the AI settings

Halo is a great game PvP on the Xbox. We get 3-4 Xboxes linked together on 3-4 tv's and have a great time. I have played the story single and with a friend and it isnt what I would call a great game based on that. But if you have not played linked up with a bunch of friends talking trash and fragin each other in the various types of games available(Slayer, CTF, KoTH..ect) then you have not really experienced Halo.
I dig Madden 2004. If you play w/ 5 minute quarters, it almost generates stats of a real NFL game...weird but true! Of course if you play 15 minute quarters, your stats will be so far off the chart it is silly. With that said, Madden inches closer to more 'realistic' playing.
Still, no heart has ever gone into the "throwback" options. I am sorry but John Elway should not be announced as "Number seven, back to pass.".. still, Madden has been the best of the genre...just it is a weak genre.
