Just picked this game up tonight on a whim and a nudge from the 19.99 price tag. Of course, in true Japanese fashion, you start out with some stunning visuals and cinematics that make absolutely NO sense. I am about an hour into the game, not even out of the "400 series" tutorial sequence yet, but I'm losing interest as the battle system is pretty repetitive and annoying when you have to watch the tech battle charge up animations all the time.
Has anyone played the game through, and if so, is it worth my while to continue, or should I shelf this one next to Baldur's Gate 2?

It had the same problem FFX had, too many cinematics, not enough gameplay, and was too easy (IMO). However, I do think it's the best RPG for the PS2 currently (better than FFX, not even mentioning the abomination named FFX-2), and IMO is worth playing, even with its flaws.

Off topic but still, do yourself a favor and get the strategy guide before going through FFX2 because you'll commit seppuku once you beat FFX2 and realize you gotta go back through again to see the best ending unless you're some kind of freak and got 100% story completion first time through. I blasted through the game and finished at 55% not even realizing there were multiple endings. Now I want to strangle somebody for having to go through the gay Charlie's Angels meets Power Puff Girls gameplay again.
Edit: Oh if this game is related to Xenogears, which from the title it seems to be, I hated Xenogears, the storyline was retarded and the fighting was pretty lame.

The problem with Xenosaga is that it didnt focus on gear fighting like xenogears did. It had too much cinematics and not enough fighting, and it was amazingly easy. I never died through out the whole game. However, the graphics were well done and I feel like they actually tried to use the system's power. (Something that hardly any ps2 rpg's have done) I did like how the game play worked. The whole point system works pretty well. The story is ok, no where near the greatness of the Xenogears story. This game is also pretty short actually. I finished it in 33 hours. The cinematics stop happening so much when you start nearing the middle-end of the game.
oh and psy, Xenosaga is chapter1 of the whole xeno series, Xenogears is chapter5. However, Since Square and the developers didnt really get a long during the ps1 final fantasys, (and it really deteriorated after the ff movie) they cant officialy name it a prequel.
Yes, I am a huge Xeno fan

It takes a little while, but you will eventually start understanding what the game is about, its slow to reveal the entire plot.
WARNING Spoilers WARNING
This game is intended to be part of a real series, you will get the basic understanding of the plot but it wont feel like the whole thing, this game is really to introduce the main characters of the plot, Jr, Shion, Albedo, and KOS MOS The other character's importance comes in later. They are already working on xenosaga2, that focuses mainly on Shion and Jr. and thier involvment with U-du and the Zohars. It also explains a little more about Joachim Mizrahi and the Y-Data

Hmm I enjoyed the story in Xenogears, I mean it's not the greatest story ever told, but it made me want to see the ending. I also enjoyed the story in Crono Trigger and Crono Cross. So what do people consider a good story in a game?
