All I can say is...what the fuck?

LECTURER at the University of the West Indies, Cecil Gutzmore, has charged the United States with responsibility for the invention of the HIV/AIDS virus, saying it must pay trillions of dollars in compensation to victims of the deadly scourge.

"This is another debt that they owe to Africans along the lines of the one that they owe us for the oppression of slavery," said Gutzmore.

But the controversial lecturer did not offer any proof that probably the world's deadliest virus had emerged out of the US.

The government forced me to kill my parents, I offer no proof to this claim, please give me 300 million dollars.

I recall hearing though the wood works, that it was really a russian test that helped "make" hiv.Back during the Cold war.

Traced back to a single monkey, and man in south Africa in one of their labs.Few others in the military that I know have heard this also. Im not too sure tho!

Anyone else hear this?

the chances of HIV being man made are almost zero. it is just a random mutation from a fairly common virus found in apes in africa.. the most popular theory is that the virus was transferred to humans when an african was slaughtering and eating monkey meat from one he hunted.

I don't know what this guy's issue is other than that he is an african and if the average african isn't begging for international money, raping his cousin, fixing an election or slaughtering a village belonging to a neighboring tribe with a machete then he is blaming the united states/europe/everyone else for his problems. I am not sure if he is blaming the US for manufacturing the disease or just saying its the US's fault for not acting on it properly when it broke out.. either way he is pretty much a crackpot and shouldn't be listened to.

I was in Berlin not to long after the fall of the wall and the USSR. A few friends and I met up with a group from Russia there. It's funny how most of the stories like you mention are the same one's they heard flipped around about us. Things like the women all wear army boots, etc..

HIV is almost a genetic duplicate to a virus found in monkeys(SIV), and as we are seeing, nature is permeable. The bushmeat trade has been found to be the most likely reason. Another loverly example is mad cow disease, moving from it's origion in sheep, and after the ground up sheep bits were fed to cows it got underwent a genetic transformation and infected the cows with something that was then transferable to humans (we could not get it from eating the sheep with the disease).

I have no delusions of my comment being pure genius. It was merely satiring the fact that when HIV first became a world wide problem in the 80s, comments like the following:

"In contrast some still linked the disease to it's initial occurrence in gay men, with the Lancet calling it the 'gay compromise syndrome', whilst at least one newspaper referred to it as GRID (gay-related immune deficiency),"

This type of ignorance cuppled with the fact that the media was constantly labeling it as "The Gay Plague" had a lot of the general population believing that it was a disease caused by and orginating from homosexuality.

The fact that a lot of people to this day still believe this leads me to believe that a lot of people will buy into the "omgz teh aidz come frum the US GOVT" and is the reason I made the reference to begin with.
