High School Drug raid
http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S ... v=0RaMJamm
Watch the movie clips. It made me sick. I thought it was pretty demeaning. Alternatives to frisking an entire school body during school hours? Anyway, this was under suspicion of drugs being sold in school, breaking out the canines and making all of those high school students feel like common criminals. How many of us would object and or sue if the cops raided your job and frisked/searched everyone on the grounds for suspicion of carrying weed.

I didn't get a chance to watch it yet, but in highschool I was searched several times for drugs or other illegal things. They opened up my locker because apparently the dogs smelled something in it. The funny thing is I never used my fucking locker cause it was so far from any class I had. It was complete bullshit.

So did they actually state why they searched? There appeared to have been no drugs found? (Not to say there weren't any there). Also, I agree that if you're on the street and you're checking suspected drug dealers that perhaps guns drawn and having them face down is a correct way, but it was in a school. I guess if the school was pretty ghetto than maybe then, still don't agree with the guns drawn etc unless situation called for it...
Edit: No I wasn't face down, I was in the hall doin the spread eagle crap where they patted me down. Was pulled out of class. When they brought dogs to our school they did it during class so nobody would be in the halls as the dogs searched.

I went to an upper middle class white school, they probably could have found a proportional number of kids using drugs at the Junior High as the High School. I still find it funny that no drugs were found.Voronwë wrote:of course it was a mostly black school. this shit would NEVER happen at an upper middle class white school - where there are just as many kids who use drugs.

But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

do you think the police acted inappropriately or was the administration out of line calling the police and asking for a drug raid?Voronwë wrote:of course it was a mostly black school. this shit would NEVER happen at an upper middle class white school - where there are just as many kids who use drugs.
It is not the job of the Police department to enforce the law only where it is political acceptable, it is their job to enforce the law evenly. Whether you believe they do this or not is up to you.
If the crime is occurring there, then the police have the right to investigate, serve warrants, make arrests etc....

kyo, i think the school administration is chiefly to blame. i would expect the shool principle at the very least to be fired. i dont think anybody on the police force necessarily should be fired.
seems like the police could have perhaps handled it differently. certainly, everyone's safety is the top priority.
playing armchair quarterback, i have to believe there is a better way to search a school for drugs than to subdue students with the threat of death. they are children.

kid's lockers are considered school property and law enforcement can open them with school permission. if a drug dog reacts to a kid or his backpack then that gives the police cause to search them.Vetiria wrote:You can't just search every single person unless every single person is under suspicion.
I'm not familiar with the law in that state but it might be. kids give up a lot of rights when they enter a school.Voronwë wrote:so is walking into a public school consent to search and seizure?
I think you're being a little dramatic when you say that they were being forced down at gunpoint. some officers on crowd control had their weapons drawn which is procedure when doing a drug raid. I didn't see any being pointed at students. people are made to lie down or face the wall to minimize the risk of them freaking out and running or pulling a gun on the cops.

I've had my locker searched before, but never been spread eagle with 200 other "suspects" during school hours. Also, drawing the weapons in school was rediculous, they don't even do this when the pull you over and suspect you have dope in the car. They just ask for permission to search, but not at gunpoint like these students went through. A gun? Come on, what were they going to do, blast the first high school student that got frisky when they tried to go into their backpack?
I was thinking it was more of the schools fault, but I doubt the school admin told the cops to come with weapons drawn, but I bet they had a part in how it was orchestrated with all of those students spreading it in the hallways. They can check your lockers, yes, but a student body is not school property to be searched, frisked, made to lie face down, whatever other imagery you want to insert here, because the principal smelled weed when walking down the hallway. Come on kyoukan you can't be defending this. Frisked at gunpoint for dope? Adults don't even get this indignation, I watch cops so I am an expert.

you're saying that police don't draw their firearm during large scale narcotics raids where they are dealing with dozens of people?
I think breaking procedure in any situation would be a mistake. when you have people dealing drugs a lot of time the time you have people that are armed around them. many schools have gun/weapon problems and I would not want to see a cop gunned down because they were trying to save a bunch of students from being "traumatized" at the sight of a cop with his gun drawn.

I have an upper middle class high school and I could guarentee if the cops raided our school they'd find some drugs, not much though... whats really sad is, my brother is working part time as a substitute teacher in another town which is filled with kids that live in houses that are worth 800 grand or more. He told me that he gets asked if he is a Narc every day by at least 2 people. When he says "no". These people tell him they are going to go smoke up after school.
These kids are complete idiots, people say that the poorer schools are worse off, but this school is by no means without money to pay for a students education. But he has had students (juniors and seniors) who are complete idiots I'll give you an example of some of the questions and answers:
How many states are there in the US?
51
What is the 51st state?
Alaska
Who is the first president?
Abraham Lincoln
Who was in the revolutionary war?
I don't know
Who was in the cival war?
The east and the west.
....there is a problem here
