WoW and the Battle net forums
Anyone here planning on trying out WoW as scared as I am by the ambient idiocy on those forums? I mean, most of these posters sound like Searyx on a bad trip...
Seriously, if all the little Diablo 2 hacker punks try out WoW and find it to their liking, I hope Blizzard has better CS than SoE does, because with PvP ( even reduced ), it will be like UO all over again, where stepping outside of a town at certain peak times would get you killed faster than you could blink, most of the time.
And since I'm sure Blizzard will do a good job about the classes, balance, etc... I sincerely hope players don't choose to ruin it. Especially the Koreans - I have nothing against them as people, but as players in Diablo 1&2, they were probably the biggest pain in the neck I've ever seen. But seeing as how we play on Veeshan, I'm sure we've all had a measure of contact with japanese players who don't speak english ( or choose to fake their ignorance ) and we've all come out more frustrated by it.
I certainly don't mean they were the only hackers/morons, don't get me wrong, but they certainly were the most frustrating ones.
I'm sure this opens a whole new can of worms... But don't you think in MMORPGs, where player interaction is needed, there should be local servers with the text in the appropriate language and an incentive/obligation to remain there unless you can speak the language of the server you picked ( how to determine that fact I honestly don't know... but just a thought ).

Nah, I think they're having PK zones. If you don't want PvP, you can just stay out of those zones. They're only going to be a small portion of the world.Pahreyia wrote:Wow... so we get to deal with PKer requests all day long?
This game is making me less and less excited about it's release.

I believe that they said that there would be unique PK areas where not only can you PK, but the loot that comes from the mobs that populate these zones will be graphical unique. In this way, it would be obvious who the ppl who hunt in PK zones are by the more 'sinister' appearance of the weapons and armour. The example listed by a Blizzard rep was that there would be a shield dropped from a certain mob in a PK zone and in 'blue' zone. The stats would be similiar but the PK shield would be black with some 'dark' icon while the blue zone shield would just be a normal shield.masteen wrote:Nah, I think they're having PK zones. I read the Blizzard forums to see if there are any useful posts. Of course most of the posts give me migraines.
I doubt most of those b.net posters will be playing WoW. They all think WoW will be like the previous Warcraft games. They keep whining about paying a monthly fee. They have absolutely no clue what a MMORPG is about and that to run a MMORPG they NEED that monthly fee to support the servers/updates/expansions etc. So, a lot of the 12 year olds that post on b.net won't be playing WoW because of the monthly fee.
I also predict that when others see that it ISN'T like the RTS of past Warcrafts, they will quit after a month or two.
As for the PvP as I understand it, they will have special zones for PvP. And the "unique loot" that Archerion mentioned, I read that they award that for events in the arena (that's what I remember reading anyways).
I wouldn't let the b.net posters scare you away from playing WoW. Like I said, most of them won't play because of the monthly cost, or will quit after they realize it isn't "Warcraft 4."

Thanks for the PK clarification guys. I used to hate that shit in D2, even though it was a consentual system. I'm still waiting to see the reviews from the Beta players. I think the game is getting a little overhyped because of FoH and LoS' constant reviews of WoW, inciting the newbies to a frenzy because all of the "uber" players talking about it.

Maybe because they were free to play? /shrug I think most of "that crowd" will have a big wake up call once WoW is finally released and they experience what a MMORPG is really like. Then they will go back to their "free" games. (One can hope anywayskyoukan wrote:blizzard games have always attracted that kind of crowd. I'm not sure why their games are magnets for stupid people, but they sure know how to tap that market.

It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.
