wtf? $.50/game, ~$2k/unit. For Space Invaders.
Bad Idea
arcade operators are stupid. it never occurs to them that keeping the prices down at their arcades will lead to 4-5 times the traffic easily. by far the most common reason why people don't go to arcades any more is that they are too expensive.
Ive been to nickel arcades in the states that are packed full of people 24 hours a day compared to most arcades these days where all but maybe one or two of the machines sit unused for most of the day.
one of my earliest childhood memories is my dad holding me up so I could see the screen while playing space invaders. it would definitely be a cool machine to own instead of actually having to go out to arcade to play it but I would rather track down and buy a classic machine than spend $2000 on a new one that has probably $25 worth of technology running it.

/nod. If it's nostalgia that motivates people to buy one of these, they are kinda missing the point. Part of what you are after (at least in my view) is a piece of history. The only way to get that is to track down & buy and ORIGINAL machine. Buying one of these? Bleah.....jut DL & install and emulator.kyoukan wrote:one of my earliest childhood memories is my dad holding me up so I could see the screen while playing space invaders. it would definitely be a cool machine to own instead of actually having to go out to arcade to play it but I would rather track down and buy a classic machine than spend $2000 on a new one that has probably $25 worth of technology running it.

well if it was galaga(sp)
Heh, this is going to be one big mistake. If the arcade operators actually buy into this, it only goes to show how most all of them mismanaged their business in the light of changing home technology.
There is one arcade near me and it survived by turning over most of its machines to air hockey and basketball shooters. It also has its compliment of dance games, a wall of old sit down racing games, a few recent fighting games, and classic titles. I just went in there recently to see how it stayed around and there was a pretty damn cool game in the vein of the rhythm games but you use a guitar instead. May have to try that one out sometime.

I love this game in so many ways, once went in and plunked down 20$ on it for about 45 minutes of playtime. So much fun to load up both guns and use them yerself.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

My dad owned a pool hall and several video games when I was a kid. I have a lot of good memories of that time 20 years ago.
Nowadays, video game stores hae to charge a lot because of the high cost of the machines. A $2000 dollar machine would take 8000 plays just to break even. It is almost impossible to make money on the machines. Even 20 years ago my dad had trouble making ends meet. My dad nows does vending machines and they are a similar problem. A good account for him may make $200 a week. If the machine costs $1500-2000 then it takes at least a few months before profitability.
