Veeshanvault Game of the Year thread!

Post by noel »

The year is now winding down. No seriously. I'd like everyone to post what they believe was the best game they played this year on any platform, and within any genre. If you feel you ABSOLUTLELY HAVE to post more than one, please limit yourself to no more than three games total. Thanks.

Game of the year for me was 'Knights of the Old Republic' for the PC and for the Xbox. This was by far the best roleplaying game I've played in some time, and probably the best Star Wars inspired anything (including the movies) that I've ever seen. The graphics were good, the gameplay was easy to get used to, and the story was fantastic. The characters are well developed and the action sequences were great. I'm hardpressed to come up with ways the game could have been any better.

I highly recommend anyone who has not played KotOR pick it up and check it out. Yes there's a lot of initial reading, but after a while, you'll see what a good story it is, and not mind.

Alledgedly there's a similar game due out based on a martial arts theme, and I'm really looking forward to that as well.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

My vote would probably go for KOTOR as well.

KOTOR probably for me too. I haven't played too much of it, but I can easily see how great it is. Call of Duty also gets some props... wow.

well, I would initially go with KOTOR, only because I wouldn't include the Frozen Throne to be a game, rather an expansion.

therefor, best expansion goes to WC3 and best game goes to KOTOR

Manhunt.

Mostly because not one of the weapons you use in that game is as geeky as a fucking light sabre. You want Force powers? How about I use my Jedi skills to force this baseball bat into your skull? The only thing that would make this game more sweet would be a deep voice saying "Fatality!" after you exterminate somebody with maximum prejudice.

Having seen a brief demo of KotOR, I'd have to agree with the posse and cast my vote there. I am hoping to get to that game before the first of the year, it really seems like an excellent game.

My vote goes to KotR, I got it for the PC on Friday and I am on the last planet right now. I think I got a total of 6-8 hours of sleep between Friday and Sunday. It's the buggest game I've seen in a while, but even through all that it's still the best game I've played in the last five years.

KotOR here as well. Picked it up Thursday and well worth the money. Best RPG I've played in about 2 years.

Throwing in my vote for KOTOR as well. That game still makes me orgasm ;p I can't really think of any other games that came out this year that can come close to the magnificance of this game. It's hard to even think of any games altogether that are as deep as this game.

Hmm, maybe. I think I picked it up around January or February though.

I'm enjoying Need for Speed Underground as well. So I think I will vote for that at the moment seeing how I am addicted to that at the moment.

Despite the lack of god damn LAN option.

(Simpsons Hit and Run) gets second place but that's because I am a huge Simpsons fan.

KotOR defintely kept me rivted for the longest amount of time.

Prince of Persia recently kept me just as glued until I finished it, but it was a far shorter game.

Oh, Return of the King did the same thing, but was fairly short (about 2 days of play time).

Madden 2004. I don't think I bought a new game other than that this year and I don't even have EQ as an excuse for that.

I'm hardpressed to come up with ways the game could have been any better.
KotOR gets my vote as well, but I disagree with that quote. =p Some simple playtesting would've made this game as flawless as you say, though. The bugs suck.

You have to realize that I played it on the X-box, and I experienced zero bugs on that platform. There was a major gamebreaking bug that could occur late in the game on the X-box, but it was well documented, and it did not affect me.

Additionally, my comment was directed more toward the actual gameplay/graphics/sounds themselves. It's a shame that the PC version is having problems. Hopefully they'll be able to offer a patch to correct the issues.

There was a huge number of bugs in KotOR on Xbox, you just had to know what to watch for. Everything from item duping to being able to max every stat and get every force power. But, KotOR is probably the best Star Wars based game ever produced, I certainly don't know of any better.

Having said that, I have to throw my vote in for FFX-2.

same deal

the only drawback i saw to KOTOR was it was a pretty short game for an RPG, and some parts were a little too easy

but yeah, by far one of the best role playing games ive played in some time

Game of the year for me would be F-Zero GX. But I haven't played KoTOR yet and seem to be the only cube owner in a world of poor deluded XBox owners ;)
