Buckeyes at Wolverines

Post by Sylvus »

I figured that we've polluted enough threads, time to make our own. You Buckeyes better bring it this weekend, I think you guys are going to get housed at the Big House.

How awesome is this, the 100th meeting in the greatest rivalry in the history of sports*? And with so much riding on the game. I really can't wait.

In the meantime, check out this quiz. It's pretty tough, I only got 4 out of 10.

The key is containing Chris Perry and making Navare try and beat OSU.
Navare has been suspect in big games, and OSU has a pretty talented DB crew to go with outstanding DL and LBs.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Jeff Renne's plea deal on a forgery charge came with one demand: He had to stay in the local jail through the weekend so he could watch the Ohio State-Michigan game on television on Saturday.

Renne, a Buckeyes fan, knows from his criminal past that there is no television at the reception center where inmates go before they are moved to one of the state's prisons. But inmates at the Franklin County jail get to watch TV.

"I told my attorney if they would table my transfer for a week, I would take the deal," said Renne, who was charged with forgery.

"If they win, I will be on cloud nine for a few months that I'm incarcerated."

Judge Richard Sheward of Franklin County Common Pleas Court agreed to the deal and accepted Renne's plea on Monday.

"What possessed me to say yes? It's Michigan week and it's Columbus, Ohio, and I thought I should do my part for the Ohio State Buckeyes," Sheward said.

Renne will serve two years in prison.

Ohio State is already down 21-0, but based on the NY Times ranking 8-3 Florida State #4 that may be good news for the Buckeyes. A nice loss and the Buckeyes may move up to #1 in the Times poll.

Buckeyes couldn't contain Perry.

Buckeyes couldn't sack Navare.

Well played, Wolverines.

Well deserved victory for Michigan. Perry is a beast. Navarre played good (like I knew he would). The refs DID help them out some though but they would have won no matter what.

Yea Navare played a good game. Perry had a nice game.

On the up side the OSU offense looked pretty damn good in the passing game.

I've considered the OSU team suspect all year. They just pulled too many close games out of their ass at the last minute against crappy teams. I personally think they were only ranked high because of last year's accomplishments.

Hate to tell you but the way Michigan plays now, only a vew few teams in the country can give them a match. And OSU did.

Actually, they were ranked that high because this year's BCS system no longer accounts for margin of victory. It didn't matter that they barely beat crap ass teams, as long as they won the game. Thusly, they were the most overrated team in the country.

Man that was awesome. I got nice and drunk and got to watch my favorite team beat my most hated rival, with 112,000 of my closest friends. Good game, Bucks. Was close until the end, a good 100th meeting.

5 special teams plays spread between 2 games are all that stopped us from going to the National Championship. TT

I hate to disagree with you but you cannot lay the blame of 2 losses squarely on the special teams play of michigan. In the past 10 years, Michigan's kicking/special teams play has always been suspect.

When is the last time Michigan had a kicker that could consistently kick 30 yard field goals? How about a punter that averaged 40yr/punt?

I blame the last 3 years of mediocrity and this years 2 losses on Navarre and Carr.

Navarre has had 4 years to prove himself at Michigan, he still hasn't done it. 1-2 versus the Buckeyes, 0 Rose Bowls (this year will be his first). In the Oregon and Iowa games, i got tired of seeing incompletions on third and short and 2 yard dumpoffs on third and long. Navarre's inabilities to move the ball and sustained drives is what cost the Wolverines a shot at the national championship. Its too bad Navarre really didn't mature until the Minnesota game which showed his brilliance. (Michigan fans are not easy on their quarterbacks)

Mind you, I am aware that Navarre doesn't call the plays, that is why Carr must be accountable. Everytime Michigan gets a marginal lead, Carr is content to sit on it and not try to deliver the knockout punch. Personally, I think that he lacks confidence in his quarterback. Classic example in this game when he sat on it with 1:30 left in the half and 3 timeouts against an Ohio State defense which was on its heels.

Michigan looked like a championship caliber team. They threw the ball down the field which opened up the running game and punished the Ohio State front 7 for 130+ yards. Edwards had 2 touchdowns (the 87 yarder called back)

You can say that OSU fans can say it was close all you want but you know thats a lie. The only thing that kept you in the game was Michigan penalties. You were thoroughly owned.

Well, I'm still going to blame them on special teams, and not even on the kicker/punter. Oregon scored two touchdowns on special teams, and we missed at least one extra point. That's a 15 point swing right there and we lost by 4 points. The two blocked punts against Iowa are the reason we lost that game by 3 points.

Sure, Navarre didn't overcome those deficits, but I never expected him to be the next Brett Favre. He did pass for over 3000 yards this season for the first time at Michigan, and passed Grbac to throw the most careers td's in U of M history. I'd say that's a satisfactory performance. The biggest gripe against him was that he couldn't win the big games, and I think he's proven that wrong as he won a pretty big one against Minnesota and on Saturday which was probably the biggest game of his career. He did pretty well in the bowl game against Florida last year, too.

As far as blaming coaches goes, I agree there were some bad calls made this year, but I disagree in blaming Carr. I'm pretty sure the plays on the field are called by the Offensive Coordinator.

And I totally agree with you about Michigan owning OSU in that game. They were never in the game, even though they started threatening to make a run at a comeback.

The point I was trying to make was that if Michigan sustained drives in those games, the game wouldn't have been decided by special teams play. I too believe that the special teams lost the game but conservative playcalling and lack-luster decision making cost us the game.

I was talking more specifically about the fact Oregon's past defense was like 100th in the nation versus some inferior offenses when compared to Michigan. I may be mistaken but hadn't Oregon the week before allowed over 400 yards in passing. Iowa's secondary wasn't much better. Oregon and Iowa were big games and Navarre choked.

In addition, whichever coach came up with that fucked up punt formation against Iowa, needs to be fired after the season is over. We are just lucky they were able to salvage the season.

Thoroughly owned xzibit? Our defense played their worst game of the year and I still think if they had kept McMullen in the entire fourth quarter OSU might've won that game.

Keep dreaming. You must not have been watching the same game that I was.

The only thing that kept OSU in the game was Michigan penalties. It would've been 35-7 in the third quarter if it wasn't for a holding call on the 87-yard Braylon Edwards touchdown. Lets not forget the 7 points your defense scored on the Navarre fumble. Your offense sputtered and your defense couldn't stop Michigan's offense.

Defense played the worst game? How about some credit to the Michigan offense that kicked the hell out of your "overrated defense"?

Michigan won because they were more talented than OSU. OSU didn't play there worst defensive game because they were unprepared for the biggest game of the season, they played their worst defensive game because they were outmatched by Michigan's offense. Micgan's offensesive line pounded OSU's front seven. Perry ran for 150. Michigan wide receivers outmatched OSU's DBs. Navarre threw for 250+.

The holding on that pass to Edwards was pretty blatant; I don't think anyone will argue that. One good call means the refs kept us in the game? I think not.

We scored points off a turn over, are turnovers cheap plays when they go in Ohio States favor now? And yes, Michigan's offense did have a spectacular game, and I do agree they may be more talented than this OSU team; so was Miami.

i'm not saying points off turnovers or by defenses are cheap. I'm just saying that your prolific offense led by krenzel and/or mcmullen was as good not as you think.

Nor do I think the game was close. Of course thats my opinion and observations as a Michigan fan, your opinion and observations as a Buckeyes fan is gonna contrast.
