So I have dial up, and I'm downloading the patches to FFXI which I just bought and installed, and its taking 16 hours... is that normal? It seems a little excessive.
Modem is set at right speed etc.
"There is at least as much need to curb the cruel greed and arrogance of part of the world of capital, to curb the cruel greed and violence of part of the world of labor, as to check a cruel and unhealthy militarism in international relationships." -Theodore Roosevelt
Their file checking system seems to be thorough and does not rely on some hash table to quickly check file versions. Instead, they seem to enjoy religiously checking every file for integrity and version.
They seem to have patched the entire game since the CDs were stamped.
By the entire game, I mean a significant portion of their dat files and the game engines.
There does not seem to be any form of compression involved in the patch process. (Heaven forbid! They would reduce their own bandwidth requirements, hardware requirements, and network traffic, but it would cost them an extra few weeks of development!)
So, after hellacious downloading on dial up, setting up endless shit in player online, changing configs, registering, blah blah blah, I was ready to make my character.
I get to character creation bar, click on it, and it crashes to desktop.
I have the sys reqs for the game, so what is up?
The only crashes I've heard of thus far are sound-card related so maybe try backing off the Hardware Acceleration in your Windows sound properties especially if youre using a SoundBlaster.
It got old fast for me =/ +/- 3 levels to get good xp in a group is a bit harsh. sure you can fight things that are hard to the strongest party member if you exceed the +/- 3 level rule..but then your so woefully underpowered theres no fucking point.
