FFX 2
Saw a little blurp preview of it last night..looks pretty damn cool. Of course, they only show you the little movie scenes. But, still, looks rather awesome. I think I heard somewhere that Yufie is the main character in this one.

Yuna is the main character actually. She quits being a summoner, and goes out with Rikku (from FFX) and some new chick who's name is Paine.
The girls change outfits to improve their skills and whatnot, and the combat is similar to previous FF games except that it appears to happen in realtime (I played the demo that was in PS2 magazine, but have yet to play the actual game).

Fanservice, pure and simple. They took the female characters, added another chick to round out the party, and gave us a bunch of skimpy outfits to parade them around in. I'm SO there, dude!Winnow wrote:If it's half as good as FFX, FFX-2 is still better than 95% of the games out there.
I've got a backlog of 10 or so PS2 games to play including FFX-2. No time to play them!

The game is fun...
I like playing it though I'm not sure if going through the same areas over and over will get too repetitive...especially since I went through most of them about six months ago. But it's like the Matrix or Star Wars... no matter how shitty the last one may be... I have to see what happens in the end.
Goth Chick, Girl next Door and crazy blonde all in skimpy outfits kicking ass... course its fanfare
But i rike it arot.
IMO - Don't waste money on the $40 guide.. just get the basic book if you get anything.
Now when FF7-2 comes out.... it's over
Some info as requested:
FFX-2 is set about two years after the original. If you haven't beaten the first one yet (why the hell haven't you?) then there is a little back story in the manual to refresh your memory.
Game Background
After being shown a strangely disturbing movie sphere by Rikku, Yuna leaves her home in Besaid (again) to join the sphere hunting Al Bhed group called the Gullwings (which includes the other two playable characters Rikku and Paine) in search of answers and all the great stuff.
After completing the introduction mission (has a funky "Charlie Angel's" feel to it), the game branches off in a non-linear fashion that allows you the freedom to explore just about every spot from the original FFX game.
The story is divided into Chapters with "hotspots" that are shown on your map. These hotspots serve as a guide for areas that you need to visit to advance the main plot. They do not need to be visited right away though. In fact, it is encouraged that you visit other areas during every chapter and complete side missions first to gain additional dresspheres, items and to get the "best possible ending". Besides, you get to see characters from the previous game and see where they're currently at in life. J
Character Development
Character development resembles a combination of the FFX grid system and the Jobs concept used from previous FF games.
Stats (Hp, MP, Str, Magic.. etc) can be raised or lowered depending on which dressphere is equipped and what level your character is. (which raises through normal Exp gain)
Dresspheres are acquired throughout the game and placed on one of many Garment Grids. One of these grids must then be equipped so that your character can use the dresspheres on this grid. Characters are also able to change into other dresspheres on your equipped Garment Grid in mid-battle to suit your needs.
You will accumulate Ability Points in battle which are used to "learn" additional skills that can be used with that dressphere. (e.g. A white mage will "learn" Cura after earning 40 AP points). You may choose which abilities your character is currently learning for that dressphere.
There are items and Garment grids that you can obtain that also allow use of certain dressphere skills regardless of which dressphere is equipped.
Battle
The only real big change to FFX-2's battle system is that it is entirely real-time. Once your ATB bar fills up, you can take your turn. Once the enemies ATB fills up, they will take theirs regardless of what you're doing. So there's no wasting time in battle.
Consecutive hits on the enemy will also do more damage (called Chain Hits). Performing some actions have a wait time once selected (e.g. casting spells don't happen right away but actually take a few moments) Battle is fun.. though some of the camera angles are real funky.
Mini Games
Haven't really gotten involved in these as of yet but*.
Blitzball makes a comeback though I hear you get less control over your team but get more options while managing the team.
Sphere Break is funky number game that I have yet to play enough to be able to explain.
Plenty more including Chocobo fun.. heh
Game Ending
Apparently, there are certain tasks you need to complete to obtain a 'Good' or 'Perfect' Ending which includes all the good stuff. There's a percentage bar located on the Save screen that shows your progress.
Will post more later if you want...
Like Dressphere types and such.
