The Punisher

Post by Sartori »

I think it looks totally fucked. It's a sunny Florida bloodbath with John Travolta trying to act evil (again...bleh).

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

From the preview I can venture it's going to be worse than the original Punisher movie (Gonna suck beyond all recognition) or it's going to be better (that's not saying a whole lot). It looks like they casted John Travolta in hopes of increasing ticket sales.

The whole "They killed my family and only I lived. Time for revenge!" idea has been old for quite some time. Didn't the original comic book Punisher start off killing a dirty drug-dealing cop or something like that? I wasn't even aware he ever had a family.

Of course it's been quite a while since I've kept with any comic book series, so if I'm wrong feel free to flog me with a splintered chunk of wood :P
Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.

The story from the original Punisher book had had his family being killed by the mob. It's been too long, since I read it but it was something that was explained and re-explained to death.

This movie will suck. I love how Marvel isn't even trying anymore save X-men.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Aranuil's right.

Of course there are many more reasons for me to think this will suck:

Obviously, the revenge thing has been used to death. The Punisher comic was good reading for it's time, but it's way too cliche for a movie - especially now. Didn't we just see this movie last year (A Man Apart)? I mean - I didn't see that one, but it's the same fucking concept, and it's set in Miami or somewhere with nice beaches.

Which brings me to another problem with it: The comic was dark, urban, gritty, violent, vigilante psycho with fun toys, and a cool costume. You read the book, and you were like, "don't ever fuck with this Frank Castle". This one looks like Miami Vice meets A Man Apart meets (insert B-grade action flick here). Thanks so much Avi Arad.

That guy in the trailer don't look like Punisher to me.

Or as Eddie Murphy in Delirious would say,

That ain't no McDonulds! We want McDonuulds!

Not dark enough. Should have been dark and gritty. This looks pretty cheesy.

The punisher is a hard character to put on film IMO. He has an inhuman, robotic quality to him that's difficult to convey without hearing his thoughts all the time. He's a terrible example of an action hero because he is totally insane. He would have been better off co-starring in a spider-man movie where he fights him at the beginning and ends up teaming up with him or something.

On the outside he is a pretty remorseless murderer. Only the segues where you can read what he thinks does the character make sense.
