EB

Post by Chidoro »

I'm wondering if this is an isolated incident or if EB really throws their sales staff at the populace like this.

I go and finally pick up Kotor yesterday and the guy wanted to know if I wanted the pre-owned version. He told me it's $5 cheaper. I'm not really interested in saving a lousy $5 on something like that as I don't find any value in it so advised him I'd rather have a new one. Then this putz goes into "I know what I'm talking about because I make $7.50 an hour selling shit w/out comission" mode and tries to push it again because they'll have the same warranty and advises me that I'm just going to be wasting my money on the new version. I told him I'll file it under my "luxury expenses" in my monthly budget.

Wha? When did they get all high pressure pushing their used shit to people?

like almost any retail chain, corporate tells managers to push X and he'll get a bonus and manager tells staff to push x or they'll get fired. they probably have a lot of used copies of that game in stock and they're trying to get rid of them. also, the profit margin on used titles is like 500% higher than on new.

I think it was the yutz trying to convince me that I was making some kind of huge mistake that got my goat. But a $5 savings for a $50 item is useless to me. If your proactive, you take note as to why someone doesn't find value in it and drop the price to $40 instead if the "backlash" is large enough.

Just the same old shit I guess. They still try to convince me that if they have one copy left and use the original box for the display, it's still new. The box is OPEN, it's not new. I don't give a fuck if nobody has played it, don't convice me the last copy is new. It's an open floor item as far as I'm concerned and should be charged as such. I always pass when they try to pull that crap. That company has a lot of nerve to pull that shit but I guess they know buying it elsewhere is, equally, a pain in the ass.

The reason EB & GAME (same company, different name) are told to push Preowned so much, is because its 100% profit.
We dont have to have the game shipped in, we buy them for a minor price £5 cash or £7 credit, then sell them for about £15.

We're told that if a customer is pleased that you have helped them save money, they will be loyal to you and return for future sales.

What's the normal price for new games over there, £40 or is it less, ~£30? If you save £15 on even a £40 game, that's savings. $5 is shit for a $50 game. I got paid nearly five dollars just typing this message at work.

The dearest games are usually £39.99, or £37.99 with a reward card (which we are also forced to push, we need an 82% loyalty rate for our daily sales).

There are a few games for the £40's but they are few and far between.
As for preowned, you should normally get £10 off your price, even with a new game, say for examply Pro Evo Soccer 3, in at £39.99, you might get it out of the preowned bit for £29.99, but as yet no-one has traded any in.

Gah, back in tomorrow from 11-4 :P

If you don't care about $5 then everytime you buy a game buy it used and send me the $5. You wont hear me complain!

Yes, because I don't see the value of saving $5 on something used I should still get it used and finance your twizzler habit

Used prices in the US are fucked up in general. I've seen shit that's used and not collectible on sale for more than you could expect to see the new item "on sale".

The people who buy used for more than 50% of retail need their asses kicked. I'd have to check state tax codes, but at home a used item attracts less tax for the vendor than the new one does.. inflating the profit even further.

The most popular games don't drop as much in price when they are used because they know they will re-sell.

$5 off a $50 game is 10%.

The game will function exactly the same. It's not like clothes etc where they have had other peoples sweaty asses in them, or a stain or a scratch on something.

If I could save 10% on everything I bought and get the exact same product, I would.

Didn't you tell me to buy a used car because it was a better deal? I forget. Used cars have wear and tear on them. Video games don't.

Why don't games have wear and tear? They get used, handled, shit spilled on, etc. The manual can be wrecked etc.

And I was one of the people mentioning used cars. Used cars car be purchased for a significant discount. By your 10% rule, the used car that costs 20k would only cost 18 as opposed to the 14-15k it is once it goes off the lot. In addition, you can't really relate durable goods market to a video game market.

It doesn't necessarily function the same way. The company is making a killing turning it over because they can get away with the huge margins so long as people don't realize how huge the margin is. In addition, I have to deal with the prior owner's shit fingers. To save $5? Thanks but no thanks. I buy maybe 4 or 5 games a year tops, I'll splurge and spend that extra $5

I'm with Chidoro on this one. If a game is used, sell it half price. Full price if new.

I'm not gonna buy a game that some dude may have rubbed his cock all over to save a measily 5 bucks.

Germs and boogers on used games!

£5 <--- alien symbols!

I generally like to buy new things. I won't buy items that have been returned either. Batteries missing, cables missing, manuals missing, product swaparoo's. I'll take a brand new one thanks!
