You know I have always tried to be honest with you and open about my life. So I need to tell you today that part of what you have heard and read is correct. I am addicted to prescription pain medication

At the present time, the authorities are conducting an investigation, and I have been asked to limit my public comments until this investigation is complete
And I said:

I kind of suspected it. I certainly hope this is the end of the story as far as he is concerned in the whole drug ring. Being addicted is one thing and he is owning up to that. However, the criminal aspect of it is another thing and will probably lose him his following while the addiction probably will not.

I wish I could dig up some audio of his stance on drug addiction or drug use, before and after his addiction started. Now that would be interesting to see if his opinion changed.

Being addicted to something that is given to you to "help" in the first place is a bit different, just a bit, than being addicted to something you started on your own. Listening to his admission, he still had quite a bit of pain like he did when FIRST given the medication. That should have been flag #1 for the prescribing Dr. Also, the Dr SHOULD have realized that he needed to get him onto another painkiller rather than leave him on the same one for so long. I don't see Rush recovering in the 30 days he is giving himself because of how long he was one that one medication. It rewires your brain, and that's not something that many years worth of taking can be reversed in 30 days IMHO.

Rush is done... put a fork in him.

A year from now he will be off the air entirely.

You don't act like you're God's gift to creation and then reveal you've been doped up for years. This really pisses me off.

I think I should switch to Phil...

You actually think the hardcore Rush fans will abandon him now? No they won't. Matter of fact, half of his ratings come from people that totally HATE him. I'd say his ratings will increase because of this due to sympathy from supporters, and even more people that hate him, but tune in anyway.

I hope someday O'Reily admits he's a raging homosexual and addicted to teh cock. Drug addiction is easier for the righties to swallow than sodomy.

He wasn't taking the pills as a way to curb pain towards the end, don't let his little speech lead you to believe that.

The amount of pills he was acquiring was so excessive, it's a minimum of 10 times that of the perscribed usage.

He never stated that he acquired the drugs illegally even though he did.

Oxycontin is a time-released pain killer. It works extremely well at curbing pain for ~12 hours. However, it needs to be swallowed. Apparently, he was crushing them before taking. You might as well snort heroin if you take the drug that way.

He should be shipped from the country just as he advises others that are drug addicts should do as he wasn't acquiring and using the drug for pain any longer. I can only laugh my ass off at him every time I'll listen to him again.

However, like Krim said, he's going to be just fine in the radio world. His audience is made up of too many sycophants and haters to effect him otherwise. Going forward, however, while the sycophants still think he's the greatest gift to radio, the haters will now just laugh at him instead of get angry.

Oh, I wasn't taking his side in it, I was just saying that maybe there could have been more to it like what I mentioned with the doctor. Personally, I have listened to his show just for laughs. It was very rare that I actually heard something intelligent come from it.
