"Forgotten Hope" is a mod for Battlefield 1942. Let me tell you, it is pretty damn cool. They re-vamped all the characterics of the current vehicles to make them more realistic, using an all-new damage model. On top of this, they added a TON of new vehicles, weapons, & maps from the Soviets, GermanS, British, and American, with more on the way in subsequent patches! Its very fun, and very difficult. One shot kills are common, but it depends on the weapon used, and what you are shooting at. A tiger tank now fires like one would think the dreaded 88 should fire. A nice, flat trajectory, and awesome penetrating power. I fuxxored 3 M4's that were coming at me at the same time in this baby, one right after the other. Each M4 got 1-3 shots in, hitting my front armor, barley damaging me. Then some GI popped out of a window and jacked me with a bazooka in the ass, killing me with one shot.
My next vehicle was the Panzer IV-H, a later model than the vanilla MK IV. About the same armor as the original, but greater firepower. I didn't get too much a chance to test it out before I got waxed in one shot from a Sherman w/a 105mm gun hiding in the trees!!
I haven't tried everything yet, but my fav so far is the Puma, a German 8-wheeled armored car w/ 50mm KwK gun. In a nutshell, it drives like a jeep, has the armor of a halftrack, and the firepower of tank.

Other things I tried:

The panzerfaust. Highly effective, but a true one-shot weapon.

German support kit: Outfit yourself in this, and you spawn with a MG-42 as your weapon. Damn effective. No grenades though.

British PIAT: I couldn't hit jack shit with it, so I have no idea how effective it is.

The British Mathilda tank: So fucking slow it's painful. The gun is useless against other tanks, but great for mowing down infanty.

Me-262. The first jet fighter. FAST, and has 4 guns w/ bombs. I hacked a B-17 out of the sky with it in one pass. That was impossible in the original (unles you just rammed it)

tons of fun. I highly recommend the DL.

You still play this a lot Skogen?

My biggest concern is that this is somehow like Counter-Strike where it's only accessible to the elitists of the game and not very much for for anyone else.

Thi is the only game I play. As far as accesability, well, what do you mean? Lack of servers? I am not familiar with Counter-Strike at all.

Not the lack of server but more the ease of getting proficient in the game and being to a competing level in skill.

Now way...this is basically 3D shooting fun. You just get tanks, planes, ships, etc. It has it's own learning curve, but I have yet to run into some playing "god" (like in Quake...man, I fucking hate those guys) , barring flying. There are some REALLY good pilots out there, and you know it when the other team has one! Other than that, I would say that becoming good at tank warefare helps OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS. Being able to make accurate shots while moving at top speed is teh win!

I end games in the top 3 killers on a regular basis, and I don't consider myself that great.
