Computer problem

Post by Soreali »

Ok here's the scoop. For some reason my monitor is not realizing that the computer is turned on, so no picture shows up. I tried switching monitors and get nothing. It has to be something with the computer, I just can't figure out what.

Any ideas?
Timmah.

do you see anything at all when starting up?

If so, boot into safe mode, double check drivers and display settings.

if you were walking around and you came upon a tulip with tits, would you let it be for the rest of the world to enjoy.. or would you pick it and carry it off to a secluded area to motorboat them?

Thats the thing, I can't even get into safe mode because nothing shows up on the screen when booted up. It's happened before but it'd work after a little while. This time it just doesn't boot.

Try clearing the CMOS (normally done with a jumper).

It could also be... if it sounds like the computer is booting but you just get a blank screen that you have a bad monitor cable or your video card has gone bad. I often overlook the simplistic so I thought I would throw the idea out...

Do you hear windows sounds like it's booting but you get no picture? If not, then do your keyboard lights respond when you toggle the keys? if no, then you got a no post. If yes then its a no video. He already said he tried 2 monitors so it's not those, and I assume they both pass a self test (you disconnect the data cable from the computer, turn on the monitor and see a box with the words no signal or something similar). In that case, you could clear CMOS like suggested, or try clearing flea power on the system (disconnect power chord from wall, hold power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect). If that's still a no go, reseat the video card. If STILL a no go, bah, you got some troubleshooting ahead of you still with removing components. Good luck.

Went out and got a new card. Made a little progress. Saw the picture once but it locked up on me. Shut it down and went to boot it up again and got nothing. I'm giving up for the night. Going to try again tomorrow.

P.S. - Couldn't find the CMOS switch.
