Holy f'ing scummy Verisign!!

Post by Animalor »

Verisign has added wildcard entries to the root level DNS servers.

What this means is that anything you type in your browser is resolvable now. No more browser errors.

Let's say that you typed http://www.vooghanvault.com or .net, you now get a verisign webpage and no longer a browser error message.

What does this mean for internet users? They are now able to gather information about browsing habits and patterns of everyone on the internet by the typo's that they make when attempting to get to a site.

They can also now HARVEST e-mail messages with bad domain information(anything after the @ sign).

My recommendation is to block access at firewall level to whatever IP sitefinder.verisign.com is at.

They own the TLD servers if I'm not mistaken, that would pretty much break DNS for whatever organization you did it for\to.

They've been a pack of scumbags abusing a monopoly for quite some time now. Used to be a good, ethical organization 5+ years ago.

Is this still in place? I read about it when that happened, but I have yet to see it for myself. I still get the same DNS error if I type something wrong.

A lot of ISP's are putting blocks in place to stop traffic from getting to this site.
