I understand its a primary. What you can't seem to grasp is that parties start backing the favorites and pouring money into campaigns well before the primaries ever take place.

Either spend some time in the US so you have a clue what the fuck you are talking about or

haha it's hilarious watching you squirm and waffle.

oh nos the democrats have too many peoples running for president!

then you have the fucking chutzpah to tell us not to comment on US politics when its patently fucking obvious you don't even know what a primary is.

No waffle here.

Question. When do you think the dem party picked who they were going to back for the next election? I'm trying to asses your level of ignorance so I can judge how many charcters to a word you can follow without getting lost.

Seriously, if you think party money hasn't already been settled on a candidtate, you probably also believe the primary will be decided by voters.

I can tell you it has not been yet, especially since Hiliary is alluding to running, she would easily get the party support.

Skogen, did you read my post? I said exactly that and had a counter for it. The counter is there are more average to above average iq peeps to counter the stupid rednecks, and enough stupid minorities that will vote for another minority solely based on the fact that he IS a minority.

I disagree. Ignorance & stupidity are EVERYWHERE in this country, and in my belief, outnumber the sane & smart people. Get a black candidate, and the idiots will come out of the woodwork.

EDIT: I didn't read your post, for I started a reply, and got distracted at work, so it took a while to get it posted.
Moreover, think of all the educated, white collar people with above average IQ's who are biggots anyway.

Half of the bigoted inbred hicks that would not vote for a black man would not even realize that Powell is black. He is nto an overly dark skinned man and since they don't have them new fangled color TV's, I am betting they would never know until someone told them. Or they could just put his name close to Bush's on the ballots and they would punch him by mistake.

Shame of it is, that Krimson is partially right, so is Kilmoll and Skogen

Tons of black people would vote for Powell only because he is black
Tons of white people would only vote against Powell because he is black
Tons of people are too fucking dumb to even realize who they are voting for
75% of people cannot even tell you where they can go vote

But Powell would lose because dumb people are the overall majority, and white people are the racial majority, and therefore there are more dumb white people than any other race.

You forget about the hispanic vote, in a few years they will surpass whites as the majority, so their votes are not peanuts.

Are you implying that hispanics who have every right to be in this country and do an honest days work don't vote because they can't take enough time out of their thievery to go vote, or was that a joke?

Seriously, I wonder where that stereotype got started?

I've had a couple of predominantly Mexican crews do work around my place for me and they busted their asses.

actually the reason there are so many hispanics in this country is because they DO work.

they outwork most Americans in labor class jobs and they do it for less.

who do you think has kept Construction industry profits at 8-15% for the last couple of years?

I get a better deal than that. I get to be bombarded by American media from the moment I became aware of my surroundings while living in a nice country like Canada.

People like to throw down the 'you don't live here, you know nothing of what it's like' argument, when in fact that's pretty damned false. I can't speak for ALL Canadians, but a lot of us have been innundated with the American way of life for most of ours. Heck, we're probably more aware of things than most Americans. How many can actually understand the electoral colleges? :)

I'd wager most still blame the election solely on Florida and the hanging chads and not on the outdated and, frankly, retarded electoral college system.

The 2000 election would have been so much worse if there was no electoral college. Gore only had 0.5% more votes than Bush. Every ballot in the country would have been recounted 15 times.

Well the electoral college came about because the small states were whining that their votes (and interests) would be drowned out by the larger populations of bigger states. I can see both sides of the coin, but generally am not too keen on changing things my forefathers set forth. I'm all for changing the system though as long as everyone else agrees to it.

Hillary has said she won't run this next election but I suspect she will in 2008 if we don't get a Democrat in office for 2004.

In regards to finance I suspect Clark has a lot of support. It was many of the financial backers that pushed him to run.

I used to think the electoral college was a bad idea but after doing some reading and thinking on it a while back I think it is probably worthwhile.

This is a pretty good article on some of the reasons for the EC.

http://www.cato.org/dailys/11-10-00.html

One thing I find interesting (the author touches in this on the article) is that you frequently hear complaints about the electoral college, but you don't really hear any complaints about the fact that you have two senators per state, no matter what the population is. As he puts it
Montana, with 883,000 residents, gets the same number of Senators as California, with 33 million people
This is very delibately set up this way in our Government as one of the checks and balances (for similar reasons as to why the electoral college works the way it does). The electoral college very rarely actually differs from the results of the popular vote but the Senate always operates with its members representing disparate numbers of voters. But the perception of the EC is much more negative than the Senate election process.

That is why we have the House of Representatives... they "represent" the actual population of a given state. :)

Avoiding any techinicality of the term war, I am assuming you mean some sort of major engagement with our troups against an armed enemy.

Bush II - seems going for a record and probably the source of your misimpression. 3 Years so far - 2 major invasions. By far the most significant use of military force by a President since Vietnam (started and escalated by 2 Democrats and withdrawn from by a Republican). But given that he is the first President since Roosevelt to be in office when America was attacked, maybe we can give him a pass on that and not jump to the conclusion that his party affiliation is related to his use of the military?
I still don't understand the term "gay republican", unless you add "masochist" :)

You can't look at Bush's gubernatorial record as being one of the killingest governors ever and not expect him to rush to war every chance he got, real (Afghanistan, though still debatable) or imaginary (Iraq).

Also, while you can't directly attribute every death penalty case in Texas to Bush during his tenure, he IS supposed to review every case including:
Some Lone Star State cases for your perusal: An openly homosexual named Calvin Burdine was sentenced to death after being given a court-appointed lawyer who referred to gay men as "queers" and "fairies," and who fell asleep during the trial. In 1998, two Texas defendants were executed for crimes committed when they were 17. (That same year, of the 70 juveniles on death row in the United States, Texas was holding 26.)
http://www.truthinjustice.org/govdeath.htm

Besides the comparisons to the Third Reich, this administration has continually held public opinion in contempt. I honestly don't know why they continue to hide and dilute intelligence that doesn't support their case as they clearly don't care what anyone has to say any longer. They, quite cunningly, pushed through a number of important bills immediately following 9/11 that gave GW dictatorial powers and created his Secret Police and they're not about to give them up.

He's FAR too intelligent for the job; his colleagues would never allow it. Not to mention, the only man with a shorter lifespan than the first black American president would be the first president with a black vice president ~ ref: Chris Rock ;)

No, its the black president with the Mexican vice president. The moment the president gets shot, the borders open. That is how the joke was told by Dave Chappelle I think.
