Saturn 2002 L200?

If so, do you notice the Headlights, dash and dome lights flicker randomly? we have been going back and forth with Saturn for 17 months now about this problem, they tell us it is an electrical loading problem and there is no fix for it yet but they are working on it.....

I'm just wondering if anyone else has reported the same problem and gotten the same answers.

eh actually most Saturns I've come across (never owned one but an ex did) have been very reliable cars. Must admit I have never read any research on it though, so might have been lucky..

This is a completely random stab in the dark. But try disconnecting the radiator fan (i'm assuming you have one, most new cars do) and see if the problem persists. I've seen them draw stupid amounts of power...of course you probably need that fan, depending on where you live.

I'll let a real car person give you a real solution tho.

I'm pretty sure if anything goes wrong on a Saturn, you have to replace the entire car.

I drove one for three years. Up to 70,000 miles it was a damned dependable vehicle.

Chidoro is pretty close to spot on. At one point my car developed a really severe miss anytime the temperate got below 50 degrees Fareinheidt. The dealer said it was overdue for a tune up. When I talked tot he shop manager, I found out a tune up for a Saturn involved replacing every damn bit of the equipment under the hood that resided above the air intake. Of course the cost was ridiculous.

No, I traded it to that selfsame Saturn dealer for a used Ford he had on the lot.

This happens to many cars at night, and most people don't notice it. If you have every power feature in your car on, at night, this happens...just watch the brake lights on the car in front of you...they flicker.

Reason is, alternators are smaller than they used to be (to save money), and cannot constantly keep up with the power demand of vehicles at every instant, so when it lags behind, your lights will flicker...

Bad news is, it could be something worse, but they would of told you that by now. At what speeds does this occur? I'm gonna guess you find it most notable while sitting at a red light...and you probably don't notice it when on the highway going a nice constant speed?

Anyway, run all power features iin your car at night and see how bad it gets (ie. AC, power windows up and down, stereo loud, etc). If you can notice it greatly when doing all these things, it is just the alternator lagging behind...

Had a 95 saturn for 6 1/2 years, put 195k on it, only replaced tires and brakes, ohhh and a battery once. I was still on the origional clutch (manual is the way to go), beyond dependable, I loved it.

Kluden, the problem is completely random... it can go for a few days without dimming and all of a sudden it will happen every 10 seconds for miles and miles. I have only seen it happen once or twice while stopped, it also happens at all speeds, also it dosen't matter what is on at the time ..i've had the ac and radio on with the wipers going and it didn't do it, we have been told by Saturn that they know about the problem but they have no fix for it, this is a condition with all 2002 L200's.

We also have a 1994 SL2 and have 0 problems with it.

Lor....if it is that random, the only thing it could be, expecially if Saturn knows about it, is the computer is having issues with power dispersion. In other words, it can't make up its mind. I wouldnt worry about it.

It does help to write letters to the home office, tell them you are getting no solid answers, and that you also expect them to have a solution for you by year's end...but do it nicely. Worst case, you get free tune ups and shit for your "troubles".

I worked at Saturn from 91 - 99 and when I retired my Saturn, it had 232K miles on it. Only non-scheduled maintenance I had to do was a clutch somewhere areound 125K. 2 batteries, little odds and ends, but nothing substantial ever went wrong.

The Saturns use a metal Timing chain like old school. No belt, so the only time you would service that, is in the case of engine overhaul, catastrophic failure, etc.

I had one other issue, I hit ice and did 2 360's and busted my right rear bearing, I dare say that was my fault so not worth mentioning. And no, origional exhaust, origional clutch, at the end my rings were going and I was burning oil( a qt every 4 fillups), but then, 2 months before the divorce, the ex crashed the car with no collision on it and it was a dead soldier.

So you downgraded and got a Ford? Ha! Never again for me. Ford is off my list. It's replacement will probably be in the acura/lexus/honda/toyota area.

Actually, I bought an old Merc. Gave nothing for it, drove it three years on nothing but gas, oil and tires, then traded it in for a pickup. Couldn't tie two by fours and such on the roof of the Merc, was embarrasing.
