Has anyone played the new expansion yet? I'm holding off until I hear a few reviews from you gamers here.

Theres at least one user made module that I thought was better then the story offered with SoU. Bout the only reason I wanted it was for the new class's.

Being able to manipulate your NPCs inventory is pretty nice, and there are some nice new feats/skills.
Tumble skill is teh winnar. :)

Would one of you mind telling me exactly what NWN does as a game?

When I read about it, it sounded like it was a game creation kit.

So, if I buy it does that mean that I get a short game from the company then the rest of my time is spend downloading disconnected user-made mods?

What's the appeal here? Can you start up a game with some strangers and get a DM to lead you through some story easily? Or is such a hookup rare?

Help me understand please,
Sabek

The main NWN game is 3rd edition D&D rules. It does come with a content creation engine called Aurora. However, the main game comes with a very large "module". The initial module has a lot of play time in it, and then you can make/download additional modules and play them. As far as multiplayer you can do it a couple ways. What the people I play with do is pick a module we all connect as players and let the computer be the "DM". Or you can let one of the players be the DM and they can place/control monsters etc.

I enjoyed the expansion. NWN is one of the few games that leave me wanting more.

Yeah the toolkit is a powerful thing but who has time to really craft anything as good as the Bioware stuff? Not me :)

So the module that comes with the game is good enough to justify the expense of buying the whole package alone?

Check out nwvault.ign.com

Mods to check out

Pools of Radience (especially if you played the gold box games waaaay back in the day..really took me back)

Hand of Wu Jen - Freaking AWESOME mod. I give huge props to the guy who made this. Lot of cool ideas and its LONG.

Most of the modules I havent tested yet as they are generally geared for 1-12ish level (my main char having just maxed out at 5/5/10 assassin/rogue/figther).

My Monk has a lot of fun with gore set to "Special". I chuckle every time someone explodes from a punch (a la Doom heh).

Are these mods single player?

Does NWN support a single human playing a party of characters?

In NWN you control one player, but in single player you get one computer controlled companion. Several classes to choose from, etc.

I'm not sure about the modules...I haven't reinstalled to play any yet, tho I've been thinking about it...I'd imagine most are either single or multi...but I can't say for sure.

NWN

Post by Claritin-CT »

I bought NWN back when I was playing EQ and found I didn't have the time for both and that I liked EQ better.

However that being said... I quit EQ because I found myself leveled into a corner (it was get a divorce so I could have the time to continue killing stuff that gave me equipment OR quit)

So I have been wandering aimlessly from game to game trying to figure out what to do.... and I keep coming back to "where the F did I put my NWN CDs?"

When I find them I think I will give it another shot and see if I can get some more dangermice on NWN.

Combat was simple enough to be fun, charector customization (through feats and other 3rd edition rules) was excellent and it has a tried and true basis for class balancing.

I had like a 6th lvl human or half-orc monk I forget which I had logged onto some server and someone told me to follow him and loot up so I did and was dissapointed later because it didn't feel like "my charector" anymore because I didn't earn my own stuff. I was going to start from scratch but that was When Celestial Tomb started hitting our rough spot and PoP was coming out so I started leveling hardcore in EQ instead... leveling 3 accts in EQ didn't leave much time for anything else like NWN.

NWN is teh win. I just hate the fact I can't play the extension yet, because the american expansion won't run with my french retail... I'll have to wait until October. So much for the world-wide release that they publicized.

However, even the game itself is excellent. I had lots of fun; I personally prefer a single person with a companion to a party of six, even though the party of six can really bring on the pain in ways you never could believe :D

IMO, this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. The sheer volume of player created modules out there is staggering.
