Bush really needs to slow down. Sending in 200 troops at once isnt a good idea. We should of slowly trickled down troops, get the people used to our sight.

Of course there's no oil. That's the difference of 200 troops and 200,000 troops.

there is oil offshore from West Africa. 15% of our imported oil is from West Africa according to this article. Liberia is to the left of Nigeria in the map below.

But while there may not be lots of oil in Liberia itself, but there are documented links to Al Queda. If i am not mistaken, Liberia's new president Moses Blah has trained in Mohamar Quadafi's terrorist 'school'. (still looking for good info on this. Best i have is from BBC saying he attended a military college in Libya from 1985-89).

Interestingly, Pat Robertson has invested in a gold mining operation that was in league with Charles Taylor's government. Coincidentally, Robertson, on his 700 Club program, would say good things about Taylor "hes a good Baptist", and blow off all the bad stuff that he has been involved in.

The more you find out about these wars that have been going on in West Africa for the last 10 years or more, the more horrible it becomes. Some of the most brutal stuff i've ever heard of. Armies of children who have been fed amphetamines and cocaine so their minds are compliant, raiding towns hacking peoples limbs off, killing people at random. It is unreal.

"actually there is newly discovered oil i reserves offshore from West Africa.

But while there may not be lots of oil in Liberia itself, there is gold and diamonds."

Good I would hate to think we went over there just to help.

That is correct, he did train there. Quadafi has also been one of Liberia's closest supporters through Taylor's regime.

And of course, Blah was a loyal supporter to Taylor. When Taylor was out of the country, USA approached Blah and asked him to start a coup to gain leadership. He refused, and instead informed Taylor of what had happened. Also, Blah is not well liked among the different fighting groups so he is probably not the right man to bring peace to the country.

Wow, welcome to two months ago. This has been in the news that it was going to happen eventually. From what I understood in the beginning, the UN was basically having many countries go there in order to restore some sense of peace. Shit, talks about this happening were going on before we got to Baghdad.
