Brotherhood of the Wolf
I just downloaded and watched this movie. Even though the subtitles weren't the best I thought the movie was really good. I especially loved the sword that broke apart into sections. Granted it is a bit unbelievable that French peasants knew martial arts or that Indians did but they were really cool fight scenes regardless.

This movie sucked on oh so many levels, and to those crying "oh no, it's avantgarde, a hybrid", I call bollocks!
The storyline is cluttered and confused, the movie doesn't know what it wants to be - part action, part kung-fu-fighting, part Alan Quartermain, part scenic history piece, I could go on and on. The acting is abysmal, the writing is pathetic; the only good thing this movie has going for it is some admittedly very good cinematography.
Watch it for the pretty moving pictures, if you have to watch it at all.

Would that be Triple Hayche?
As for the movie, I thought some aspects of the story were really interesting and the cinematography was (sometimes) impressive but there were too many parts where I just had to cringe at how bad this movie really was.
The bullshitty stop-slow-stutter-freeze/frame in the fight scenes seemed completely random to the point of annoyance. Overall, the fight scenes were choreographed well, but horribly shot. It was like they hired some film school dropouts to shoot the fight scenes

I like this movie, and if you rent a DVD try to watch the subtitled version, it's much better than dubbed one. The English voices just don't match the faces well. Plus French just sounds better somehow when watching this.

Personally, I rather enjoyed this movie. I liked the theatrical release better than the American DVD, but its good none the less. You just have to be in the mood for a Hong Kong action flick that has its story set in France. The bone sword at the end is absolutely absurd unless you are an anime, but I enjoy that genre as well so I found it acceptable. Movie does start to lose its appeal after 3 or so screenings. Anything beyond that is just a matter of fast forwarding to the fight sceens and those including belluci
